Innocence [2004] (product link) Drama / Mystery "Innocence" is one of the weirdest movies I have ever watched. To call this movie a mystery is an insult to the genre. After watching it I had more questions then answers. I don’t know much about France or its culture and that may be why I don’t understand the story or the symbolism the story contains. The story has an amazing amount of filler and as far as I can tell no actual ending or moral. I think this was a sick attempt by Lucile Hadzihalilovic to put naked little girls on film without going to jail.

I agree. If someone were to ask me about the story premise, i wouldnt know where to begin.
Cannibal (product link) Horror / Thriller I believe that "Cannibal" is overrated. If you want a bloody graphic nightmare, you will be greatly disappointed. The movie starts out with the whole "will someone let me eat them?" thing and then turns itself in to a gay porn for the next hour. Finally when we get some hope of a gruesome human-eating party; instead he complains about eating his friend. And when he finally does, it is so dark that you can’t see enough to tell what he is doing. Overall I was greatly disappointed.

Excellent review. The biggest shocker about this film in my opinion is how much people seem to like it. They're wrong. If this movie had a scrotum, I'd kick it. Hugs and kisses, the Bottle Kids!
"Visions Of Suffering" is a Russian horror film set primarily in a techno club. This is one of the strangest movies I have ever seen. It was so exciting it put me to sleep twice. Either the symbolism in the story is so amazingly complex I had almost zero idea what was going on, or I hope that was symbolism in the vain hope the movie had a plot. In the end I believe it is a form of anti-drug propaganda. If you take drugs, evil demons will come in storms to rip your flesh from your bones and rape your corpse.
As with most Unearthed Films releases, it has some great blood and gore but definitely not the best.
Red Room 2 (product link) Horror / Thriller "Red Room 2" is a terrible addition to the Unearthed Films catalog. Those who are familiar with the original know it for its depth of perversion and extremely odd touchier. The original had almost no story, just small fragments that appeared at regular intervals to keep you from throwing up. I think that was the biggest problem: they tried to make a good story and tock away from the touchier. Also it seams that in the original they crossed no boundary; in this version it is like they are scared to take the same leaps of faith.
Aftermath / Genesis [DOUBLE FEATURE] [BANNED GRAPHIC COVER] (product link) Horror / Thriller "Aftermath" is one of the most disturbing videos I have ever seen. There is practically no story and some very troubling depiction of necrophilia. It does make you think about what could happen to you after you die. The effects are incredible and the film has some amazing detail that makes it very realistic. This movie is only for people that are looking for the most disturbing videos in the world.
"Philosophy Of A Knife" is a very, very, very, long movie that doesn’t have much of a story or a point. The movie starts with an interview with an old man that lived in the area during the time Japan's research base 731 was operational. The majority of the story is spent with a very calm narrator that gives a brief description of the research they are doing, then a very brutal demonstration of what the procedure was like. I personally would have been more interested on the segments on biological or chemical weapons, instead we just see a lot of physical torture with little understanding of the research being done. Also it is amazingly aggravating at the end of the movie to show the places and memorials in Russia and Japan with no translation. All in all, if the movie has a point I think it is this: be wary of the ways you fight demons, for one day you may find that you have become the greatest demon of all.
"Noriko’s Dinner Table" is a very long and hard-to-follow movie that is supposed to shed some light on "Suicide Club". The story takes place with Noriko, an average teenage girl who wants to leave her small town for the excitement of the big city. This is where she meets a friend from an online message board--and is taken in with a group of people that stand in for people's families for a price. Soon after the events of the first movie take place and Noriko’s sister Yuka joins her in her pursuit of happiness. Her father quits his job to search for his missing daughters. Will he find his daughters and save them from the clues dark deeds? What the two movies have in common is about three minutes at the train station, and I found that this movie did not clarify a single thing from the original. The story keeps jumping between characters and it was hard to tell who the story was focused on in most parts. All in this entire movie was a disappointment to me.
Red Room (product link) Horror / Thriller "Red Room" is another extreme film from Unearthed Films. I read the description and looked forward to this film. I thought there would e some great bloody torture scenes, but instead it ended up being nothing more then a softcore porn film that covers ever strange and dark fetish in the world. This film is only for people that like to watch some very disturbing sexual content.
La Blue Girl [Live Action] Perfect Blue Box [3-Disc Set] (product link) Erotica / Science Fiction "La Blue Girl" is a soft core pornographic film that tries to bring something to the industry that is normally overlooked: story.
This is the story of Miko and Miyu Bido, two ninjas of the Bido clan. They are attacked by a sex fiend, and during the vicious battle Miyu is impregnated with the demon child. Miko is charged with its protection. Miko is soon met by two ninja of the Miroku clan, Hiro, and Yaku Miroku. They join Miko on a quest to find the missing demon child, Yaku Miroku. Even with the forces of the Miroku clan gathering, will Miko be able to save her sister's child and live up to her promise?
All in all the story is kind of flimsy but better then most pornographic films. There is some mediocre martial arts and swordplay in the film but it always feels slow and kind of clumsy.
Let The Right One In (product link) Horror / Thriller "Let The Right One In" is the tail of Oskar, a small boy in Sweden that is beaten up by some of the other children, neglected by his parents, and needs a friend. This is when he meets Eli, a mysterious girl that only appears at night. She is accompanied by her papa, a quiet man that hunts down people and drains them of their blood. The blood is used to feed Eli and keep her out of harm's way. Oskar eventually learns from Eli as she teaches him to stand up for himself. When on one of his hunts Eli's papa is captured by the police, Eli is forced to fend for herself, and the only person that can help her is Oskar. How far is he willing to go to protect a monster?
"The Host" is the story of a giant mutant that I believe is derived from a salamander. The story follows Park and his attempt to find his daughter after the monster attacks the water side restaurant they live in. When the military blocks off the area as a biohazard and arrests Park, Park has no choice but to break free from a military prison and fight the biohazardous mutant to save his daughter. I am trying not to give too much information, but with such little story it is hard.
I found the story to be fairly long and drawn out. I think they tried too hard to make the main character, which it would seem should be sympathetic, instead just pathetic and stupid. Also the way the other characters keep coming in and falling out of the story at what appeared to be random intervals makes them very hard to understand or care for. Overall a little bit of a disappointment from a film with I expected very little of.

I actually enjoyed the film much more than you, but I think all your points are valid, particularly that the film was way too long and that characters kind of came and went at random.
Pray (product link) Horror / Thriller "Pray" is the story of two desperate criminals, Mitsuru and Maki. They kidnap a child for ransom, but when they call her parents they are told that she has been dead for exactly one year to the day. Then whom did they kidnap? When they check on her, she is gone. Thus begins a horrifying game of cat and mouse.
The movie is not very scary and there are few horror elements to it. The story has very little close to the end, but the little there is was very touching. A happy ending to a terrible story.
Vol. 1: The story starts with three strangers that witness the brutal stabbing of a young woman. They become friends and to celebrate there friend ship they decide to throw a party. But when only Kensuke fiends a date it is starting to look very grim for their party. On the way Kensuke is jumped and his date is raped, they decide to throw a new party, one of blood and vengeance. If you're looking for extreme blood and gore I would go somewhere else. Most of the movie is them being turned down by girls with one big bang in the end.
Vol. 2: The story is pretty much not there. A boy is beaten by a gang for money, and when he tries to find help they kidnap and beat them. Unlike the first part of the series, there is more gore and blood in this movie than you can shake a stick at. There is rape, torture, and death at a premium and you are in the first row.
Vol. 3: The last chapter is about a perverted boy named Kiku. While searching for flies in the garbage, he finds some pantyhose and other personal items belonging to a local women. He starts to have a crush on a woman he knows only through her garbage. He collects parts of her old day planners and starts to stalk her. Slowly he loses all contact with reality.
In Conclusion: This is one of the darkest things I have seen in the course of my life. By the time the credits rolled I felt terrible to be a human. When I had finally finished the series, it proved humans were less than trash. We could take something that meant something to someone and destroy it without a thought or care. “We are incomplete corpses moving through life to become perfect corpses.”
Mortal Reflection (product link) Horror / Thriller "Mortal Reflection" proves that the entire world loves a b-grade horror film. The story of is a young girl who is raped by two boys, and in her anger she wishes them dead. The evil spirit in her mirror hunts them down and kills them with pieces of glass. When the police start to suspect her, she becomes aware of the spirit that then tries to kill the police and, like all b-grade movies, her new love interest.
I won’t say any more. There is not much to the story, and if I keep going I will give it all away. The kill scenes are decent but few, and the story leaves much to be desired.
"The Pianist" is the story of a professional piano player named Seiji that is in a terrible accident that destroys his ability to play the piano. He is taken care of by a robot that is the same model as the one that took care of him in the hospital, that he treats more like a human than a machine. He decides to teach her to play the piano and after taking her to a live concert his efforts eventually pan out
"Dream Hazard" is the story of Kaori, a vary shy girl that has a secret crush on a boy named Senpai. One day she hears of a place that can render a virtual reality simulation of your dreams. She goes and as her dream unfolds she is alone with her love Senpai. Then something goes terribly wrong.
"Momone" is the story of a teacher that had a terrible experience through school, being picked on and bullied by the other students. Little does she know what new threats await her from one of her students.
"Chu 2" is the tale of a warrior named Hikaru that is trapped in a female body, fighting to save a beautiful deity named Pamera.
Step Sister (product link) Animation / Erotica "Step Sister" is what you normally get out of hentai: as little story as possible and a lot of sex scenes. This instance the focus is on incest and bondage fetish. The story is of two families that get married where Kyosuke and Yuna become siblings. Kyosuke has developed a growing perversion for his little sister--that she is willing to experiment with. Their actions get darker and more twisted as time goes on. Eventually she is not enough to satisfy his dark pleasures and he blackmails his step-mother into satisfying his sick desires. Then the normal happy ending where orgies and incest bring them closer as a family emotionally and not just sexually. The animation is good and there is little story to speak of. Like I said at the start, it is your normal hentai.
Bone Sickness [Extended Directors Cut] (product link) Horror / Thriller "Bone Sickness" is the story of Alex McNetti. He is terminally ill with a sickness in his bones. His friends and family are desperate for the cure that doctors say does not exist. This is when Alex’s friend Thomas Granger decides to get him some bones from the dead to reconstruct his bones. As he eats more of the tainted meat he starts to regenerate his strength and seems to be on the road to recovery. This is where things go awry and the dead decide they want their bones back.
The story is about what you would expect from a zombie film, but the gore--my god the gore is out of this world. The sheer amount of blood in this film could fill a swimming pool. But what else do we expect from an Unearthed Films DVD?
Tabanfire (product link) Martial Arts / Thriller "Dynamite Warrior" is very interesting mix of genres. For instance, you have the western, with cattle and farm hands being attacked and robbed by bandits. On the other hand you have evil wizards that use magic to throw telekinetic attacks, and heroes that use rockets instead of guns.
The story takes place in Thailand in 1855. A man named Jone Bang Fai is on a mission to find his parents' killer. When he finds the evil wizard, he learns that he cannot defeat him. Jone is contracted by Lord Waeng who knows the secret of defeating the sorcerer. Lord Waeng has hired several bandit groups to ambush cattle traders to drum up sales for his tractor business. These groups have been defeated several times by the wizard and this starts his devious plot.
The action is good if you enjoy Muay-Thai fighting styles. The movie is an entertaining watch for the action and little story.
"Bondage House" is an older style anime with a classic feel. The story starts when a detective finds two men chasing a girl down an alley. He jumps in and saves her. He takes her home to a family that is apparently waiting to kill her for inheritance money from her father’s estate. She disappears in the night after giving her operation to the detective. Now he must find her before the family finishes her off.
"Sins of the Flesh" is another anime with a classic hand-drawn look and feel. The story begins with a painter that wishes to become a man of god. As he was painting on a hillside he meets a beautiful girl and falls for her. That night as he sleeps he is awakened and seduced by a demon. When he catches the priest in a sexual act he blackmails him into staying quiet to get the position sooner. Can he overcome his feeling to reach his goal to become a priest?
"Erotic Torture Chamber", like the rest, has a classic style and feel. The story starts with a medieval fantasy battle where a demonic leader has taken power. Soon after he has his men kidnap the princess from a nerdy kingdom. Where with the use of a special drug he has sex with her. Now her bodyguard Maya has to go to her rescue. Will Maya save her before the Dragon Demon King conquers the world?
Tragic Silence (product link) Animation / Erotica "Tragic Silence" is an average hentai. The artwork is beautiful. The story is basically about a boy that is in love with a vampire. She loves him but can’t commit to him and desert the coven. There is little to say about the story because there is almost no story, there is a lot of sex and little else.
This Hollow Sacrament (product link) Horror / Thriller Interesting film about a fairly graphic serial killer that lures a police officer into a game of cat and mouse. The police officer arrests suspects that have committed sexual assaults on various people. After the suspects are sitting in jail, their victims start getting abducted and tortured and killed by some strange suspects that spend his time taunting the police with phone calls and more victims. The blood and gore effects are decent with a halfway interesting story.
Police Story 3: Supercop (product link) Martial Arts / Comedy "Supercop" is the third in the "Police Story" series. I was looking forward to watching this film and it has a great mix of Jackie Chan's amazing martial arts and slapstick humor.
"The Legend of Drunken Master" ("Drunken Master 2") is the story of Wong Fei-Hung. He is sober and taking a pledge of non-violence. On a return trip from getting herbs for his father's medical practice, he smuggles ginseng aboard the train. When he goes to retry it he gets in a fight with a special agent of the government. When he gets home he discovers he has a stolen jade seal. He is tracked by a government agent who plans on steeling the seal and selling it abroad. He is forced to draw up his wine and take back the history of his great nation. This is one of the funniest Jackie Chan movies ever with some of the most skillful fighting I have seen him perform. A definite must-see film.
"Project A 2" is the sequel to "Project A", where Dragon Mao is now a decorated officer of the navy. He and his team from the first movie are recruited by the police to help fix the problems with the most crime-infested district in Hong Kong. As he makes the city safer he gets more and more enemies, eventually being set up by the rebellion, hunted by corrupt police officers, and tracked down from pirates with a grudge over their lost captain. All in all I think this film is kind of average in comparison to his other films.
The Orphanage (product link) Ghost / Thriller "The Orphanage" is a Spanish horror-thriller film. The story is the tale of Laura, who moves into to her old orphanage with her husband and adopted son Simon. Simon starts making friends with six invisible children lead by Thomas. One day he vanishes without a trace. She goes on a hunt to find him before time runs out. I would say more but I would be afraid of giving up any plot points.
The movie builds great suspense but it never really goes for a big shock scare. It uses small details and subtlety to generate horror, which it does masterfully. All in all a decent watch for a couple of trips to an abandoned orphanage where you watch the story the first time and the details you missed the second time.
Tom Yum Goong (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure "The Protector" is a slightly above average martial arts film. If you love Muay Thai fighting styles, you will love the action in this movie. The story I think was rather thin: a Thai boy named Kham must find the people that stole his elephant. On the way, he stumbles upon a gang conspiracy, crooked cops, and some insane martial artists. The action scenes are good, but the story just seems to drag on and skew off in directions that have little to do with the main character.
I have not seen the short version - The Protector. Tom Yum Goong is not the best perhaps in script but you have to admit Jaa does things no one else has ever done!
"Nightmare Detective" is the story of a young woman that has joined the local police force when, one day early in her career, she is called to the scene of a strange death. When they arrive, they find a young woman with a slashed throat. It appears to be the scene of a very bloody and horrific suicide. The only evidence is a strange phone number found on the victim's phone.
When later that day they report to the scene of another suicide, witnessed by the victim's wife. The victim lay in bed and repetitively stabbed himself in the neck. Again the strange phone number is the only lead.
So, with little evidence to go on, the only plan is to get the killer to reveal themself by calling the strange number. Soon after the call, the officer that called the number is found dead. In her desperation, our protagonist calls the mystery number and, with the help of a dream-reading psychic, they try to break the case before the killer finds them.
The overall story is okay. The gore effects are pretty well done--not the best, but still very good. Not a bad watch overall.
Flash Point (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts "Flash Point" is the average undercover police story in almost every way. The thing that sets it apart from other films like it is some very amazing and well done fight scenes with some amazing acrobatic feats. There is really not much to say about it. It has a fairly slow going story that about halfway through escalates quickly in to an action packed thrill ride.
This is the end of a great mystery. What happened to the legendary L as the 23 days counted down? What was his final mission? The story starts just at the end of the second movie. L is finishing all of his unfinished business when he is contacted by a fellow agent, K. K reports to him that the village he was investigating was attacked by a viral weapon of some sort. And he needs Wateri to help his friend F that was somehow immune to the viral agent. Soon he is contacted by a young girl whose father hade developed an antidote and died to protect it. The environmental protectors none as blue ship had developed the weapon to destroy non accentual humans in order to save the planet, but with no antidote they could not protect themselves. Can L take on such a large challenge with little time left? Can L save the world?
Personally I think the idea of mixing such a great fantasy story with such good characters and story with a half-baked storey of terrorists and biological weapons was a poor ending for such a great series. But maybe it is all in the same sense that evil to create a new world is still corrupt and will only serve to our destruction.
Battle Royale 2 (product link) Horror / Thriller The game has begun again and the story is more flimsy then before. When they fight each other now, they are broken into teams of two and sent to an island to kill a terrorist, Shuya Nanahar, who has declared war on adults for the Battle Royale act. Some other changes have been made for the change of objective, like they all have guns, armor, communicators... Their inexperience shows when they walk into an ambush set up by Shuya. Instead of killing them, Shuya shows them the truth. They are the same, and a shaky alliance is formed. When this plan fails, the government declares war on Shuya and his rebel fighters. This is when the truly royal battle begins. The action is good but the story is far from great, and the end is a load with several unanswered questions.
The Machine Girl (product link) Action/Adventure / Girls With Guns "Machine Girl" is a crazy movie. It has some very extreme violence and some creative torture ideas. The blood and gore are pretty good in some parts and look poor in others. The story is basic: an average person becomes more than average to get revenge for the loss of a loved one. When Ami’s brother and friend are murdered by a local yakuza boss’ son, she joins with the friend's family to get their revenge.
The three extremes are a mixture of different countries and cultures to make a collection of horror movies from around Asia.
"Box" is a ghostly tale of revenge. When a writer has terrible nightmare about the death of her sister, what is she to do? In her nightmares she faces the events that mentally damaged her in her childhood. I found the story very confusing and I did not understand the end.
"Dumplings" is about an actress that is looking for a fountain of youth--it is dumplings. These are not what you would expect, the dumplings are filled with the meat of fetuses as they are the secret of youth. Could you eat the unborn child of another? When she is convinced the dumplings are not working, she keeps asking for more powerful ingredients. They may have found youth and beauty, but at what cost? This is one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen.
"Cut" is a film about a poor man that does evil things to a rich director in order to see if a good man pressed to the limits will become an evil man. To do this he kidnaps the director’s wife and ties her to the piano by her fingers and tells him that he has to strangle a small girl to death, and for each 5 minutes that he does not, the poor man cuts off one of his wife’s fingers. What would you do?
Beware! Children At Play (product link) Horror / Thriller "Beware! Children At Play" is one of the most taboo movies I have ever seen. The story is very long and dragged out, with the general theme of "don’t trust in your god for it will only lead you down a path to your own destruction". The film has a good, solid ending. The effects in the movie are pretty good at times and kind of lame in others. If you want a good independent film that will make your friends think you are insane, get a copy and have a movie night with all your friends. That’s what I’m going to do and see if I have any friends in the morning.
Ab-Normal Beauty (product link) Horror / Thriller "Ab-Normal Beauty" is the story of a young girl with a great talent for photography, but as she gets more skilled she also gets more board with the art. One day on her way to school, when she sees a women struck and killed by a car, she panics and turns away; but curiosity takes over and she shoots her first death picture. As her interest increases, her girlfriend gets more concerned. Then one day she receives a videotape of a person getting beaten to death. A few days later there is another, and a few days later she is kidnapped by the group. Can she escape with her life?
In my opinion, this is more of a psychological horror, not very many scares, and is more of a drama. But is not a bad peace of film.
Apartment 1303 (product link) Horror / Thriller "Apartment 1303" is a supernatural horror movie that has a decent story and a few good parts that make you jump. The effects are okay--some of the blue screen work did not come out great, but if you can tell it is a blue screen effect then it is not very good.
The story is of an apartment that has a terrible and buried history of a mother and daughter that die tragically. The main character starts her investigation after her little sister moves into the apartment and during her welcoming party she calmly collects a few things and jumps of the 13-story balcony to her death. During her investigation she discovers that her sister is not the first to commit such an act. Five others have also jumped from the room to tragic end. Can she unravel the mystery of the apartment and appease the spirits before they claim her life as well.
The Suicide Manual 2 (product link) Horror / Thriller "The Suicide Manual 2" is the story of a police officer that comes across a beautiful young woman that has slit her wrists and takes her in. He spends most of the movie trying to help her with her emotional issues. While he tries to help, the police investigate the return of the strange video. After one day he returns and she has disappeared, and his search for her starts. [Like the first film, this sequel] has very little gore effects and there is practically no instruction.
SPL: Sha Po Lang (product link) Crime / Drama "Kill Zone" is an awesome movie. It is the story of Ma Kwun, a dedicated police officer with an adopted daughter, going up against his sworn enemy, Wong Poo, a large scale drug dealer. After Ma is diagnosed with a brain tumor, his best men go on the war path to secure a large some of money for Ma and his daughter after his early retirement. On their mission Wong Poo does not like his money disappearing or being set up for murder.
The film is not as action-filled as some of the other films of similar genres. The story is awesome, the characters are likable. All in all it's a great movie with wonderful characters and a memorable story.
"Dororo" is the tail of Dororo and Hyakkimaru. Hyakkimaru is the son of Kagemitsu Daigo who sold the body of his son to demons for the power to conquer the world. Hyakkimaru is found by a healing shaman and given a fake body. He goes on a quest to kill the 48 demons to get his body back. He is joined by a thief named Dororo who is on a vendetta against Kagemitsu Daigo for the death of her family. They join forces in a similar goal against a menagerie of strange demons and monsters. In the end the story is good with some good sword fight sequences.
"Oneechanbara" is the story of a post apocalyptic Japan over run by zombies. The story of a small group of survivors that ban together in similar goals. The main character Aya is searching for the person that murder her father, Katsuji is searching for his sister, and Reiko is searching for the creator of the zombie plague Dr. Sugita. As with most zombie films the story is not very important. It’s the basic kill everything that moves and well trying not to hurt your friends. The sword fights are like something pulled from Dragon Ball Z, and most the characters are pretty hollow. All in all if you like zombies, swords, and again cowgirls in bikinis you will like this film.
Rob-B-Hood (product link) Action/Adventure / Comedy "Rob-B-Hood" is an action film from Jackie Chan that feels more like his older work with more action and amazing stunts. The story is kind of unusual in that Jackie is a villain. He and his thief friends fall on hard times and end up taking one final job--kidnapping a baby for a crime lord for the amount of $7,000,000--but as soon as they get the kid, everything falls apart. Their leader is arrested and the contact disappears, leaving Jackie and his partner to babysit. Soon they realize they have no idea what to do, and this leads them on a crazy laugh-filled adventure. All in all this is one of the best Jackie Chan movies released recently.
Project A [1983] (product link) Martial Arts / Comedy "Project A" is one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies. It is the story of Dragon Mi Yong, a sailor in the navy. After several botched missions and pirate sabotage, he is forced into the police and the navy is shut down. After the restrictions the police put on them, he quits and joins forces with a thief named Fei to get some stolen rifles that the police had sold to the pirates. After the pirates attack several hostages, Dragon Mi Yong resurrects the navy to hunt down and capture the pirate Lor Sam Pau. The action in this movie is awesome, with one of the best sword fighting scenes I have ever seen.
Audition (product link) Horror / Art "Audition" is the story of Aoyama, a lonely old man that lost his wife several years ago. After a comment from his son that he is looking old, he decides to remarry. He does not want to date or use a match maker, so with the help of a friend they hatch a plan: they will hold an audition for a movie, and the girl they choose will marry Aoyama.
When going through the applicants, he falls for a women named Asami. After a few dates, she vanishes and Aoyama goes on a quest to find her and discover her mysterious past of suffering before she finds him.
I have to say, this may be one of the world’s hardest films to follow. Don’t get me wrong, it is very well done, but you may need to watch it several times to get the general idea of what is going on.
