Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure The action choreography was a bit of a let down and a bit too unoriginal for my taste. After viewing "Born To Fight" (the new version), I went into this film hoping it could match or at least compare, but in the end I felt like this flick was nothing more than an alternative version of "Ong-Bak". Worth renting but I have no plans to purchase it on DVD.

Totally agree. Calling the action choreography unoriginal may well be the understatement of the year. Every fight is the exact same, and the outcomes of some are just not plausible.
no, the action is really great, my favouite movie at moment, jeeja is not as good as tony jaa,but she is the best female actioner at moment, must see film!
Nonsensical plot (at least relative to the English dub) revolving around a pupil (Tiger) and his teacher (Mr. Lee) as they fight off the “Five Fist Gang” and their leader, a white-haired Pei Mei-like character. Apparently the Lee knows the gang (or at least of them) and they of him (at least his name) but even this isn’t entirely clear. One of the gang members, who happens to live in the same town with the Lee character, but neither knows it until other members of the gang show up, uses the teacher to train his son. To confuse issues more in some scenes the “son” is the Tiger character, in other scenes Tiger is just some unknown kid. This could be a dubbing issue, but without the original soundtrack this reviewer cannot tell.
So what about the action? Well that’s the redeeming quality of this movie. The Fu is very solid and entertaining. All fighters are fast punchers and kickers, and most of are quite acrobatic to boot. If it weren’t for the solid fighting in this movie it would rank among the plethora of forgettable independent Fu flicks of the 70’s. The finale fight between Lee and Tiger against the leader of the Gang is worth waiting for, even if a few frames are speed up (which didn’t need to be done to make it look fast and brutal), it ends abruptly (as does the movie with thee fight), and the gang leader is losing his wig for much of the fight.
With the fights this is a decent 3 star movie whose plot will confuse but fights will keep you watching.

I agree with your rating, however the action was a bit ordinary
Seven Steps Of Kung Fu (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Classic old school. Good fighting and nice continuous action. I like the villain in this one.
Not a big fan of Ricky Cheng Tien Chi, but you cannot dismiss the guy's impressive acrobatic and screenfighting skills. And in this movie, he gets to show it all off, under the guidance of Tommy Lee. Who I think is one of the most underrated fight choreographers ever. They also found some really nice and interesting Taiwanese locations here. Which gives the look of a Higher budget movie, when it most likely is not.
There are tons of fights in this movie, all great. But the real showstopper is without a doubt the ferocious finalé. Where Ricky and his master tag teams the evil whitehaired general. That is hands down, one of the best two on one fights I have seen.
There is a little physical comedy here and there, but it's pretty well executed, and not as annoying as in many other flicks of this era. I also detected some brief moments of rather obvious undercranking in a few fight scenes. But again, nothing to get upset about.
A great, and in my opinion, underated little old skool gem.
Fearless Dragon (product link) Martial Arts / Comedy I really love this classic one, especially the final battle. You should have more of this kind of action!
Fearless Dragon (product link) Martial Arts / Comedy Only thing I liked about this film was Wang Lung Wei as the villain. Not really into this one. I would suggest you might want to pass on this.
The Prodigal Son (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I challenge anyone to name an old-school film with more astounding fight choreography than "The Prodigal Son". The scene between Lam Ching-Ying and Frankie Chan is probably the greatest fight scene ever put on film.
This is easily one of the all-time greats, and may be the best ever. This is truly a film deserved of the title "must-own". Absolutely brilliant.

I like this as much as you do, but you are mistaken that it stands alone above everything else. You are very particular about superlatives, so I will follow suit.
Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure "Chocolate" was an all right movie that features a new fighting talent, JeeJa Yanin. The film really should have focused on her talent more. The fights were great but nothing really amazing. The fights were basically her just dodging, punching and kicking guys, though the people she fought were really not that great or up to Jeeja Yanin standards--they could of filmed an awesome fight with somebody that knew how to fight.
Like I said before, the action is great but not amazing. So if you're an action fan then check this one out. But if you're a person that wants a good story with amazing action then pick up director Shunichi Nagasaki's "Kuro-Obi" aka "Black Belt".

I am glad you criticize this movie, but if anything you rate it to high. I am continually amused by the responses of people who act like it is heresy to claim this mildly entertaining is anything less than the greatest thing since sliced bread.
The movie does deliver action. The action is not amazing as we seen it done before. The story is very sloppy and it did feel long. I agree with "Black Belt" is a great & smart martial arts movie.
got to disagree with your review lets face it how many martial arts films have good story's there aint many most people watch them for the action so in my opinion this film serves its purpose.
Drunken Master (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Even though I'm a huge fan of Jackie, and indeed Hwang Jang Lee, I never really felt that this movie lived up to all its hype. It is not a bad movie by any means, just not as great as it is made out to be.
It is often (wrongly) hailed as the original Kung Fu comedy, along with "Snake In The Eagle's Shadow". But the comedy isn't that funny to me, and just takes up too much of the running time for my taste.
The end fight is great. But just not enough to warrant the stellar reputation and endless praise the movie has garnered over the years, in my humble opinion.
I would take almost any of Jackie's Golden Harvest films over this one any day, even "Young Master" and "Dragon Lord".
If you really wanna' be blown away by Jackie's amazing Drunken Boxing skills, watch the superior "Drunken Master 2".

Entirely too much "comedy". Frankly, the success of this and the resultant kung-fu "comedies" from countless imitators practically ruined the classic old-school kung fu genre. I hate this laughably overrated movie.
I understand how you feel about this film living up to its hype. I graded it on a curve because for its time it was ground breaking as slap stick kung fu comedy.
Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure "Chocolate" is a horrible martial arts film. The action scenes were badly directed, because every action scene looked the same as the first one. The story was horrible, and compared to director's previous work the action is a big let down. There is nothing amazing in this picture. The movie is too long and boring.
I think you either love this film or hate it. Obviously you hated it, but there are some entertaining moments that qualify this film for more than a half star.
I disagree with only giving it a half star because it was fairly entertaining. However, I do agree with your remark concerning the tediousness of the fight scenes.
Have not seen movie but must comment on your horribly uneducated comments I keep seeing all over the place including my junk. Write some reviews and prove you know what you are talking about because honestly most of us realize you are a fanboy.
Game Of Death (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure The film was really bad. Every time I saw Bruce Lee, I kept saying to myself that's from "Fist Of Fury" or that's from "Way Of The Dragon". The only part of the film worth watching is the last 15 minutes, but by then the damage is already done. Had Bruce Lee not passed away, I think this would have been his finest achievement.

The film Bruce Lee intended would have been a masterpiece - but it never existed. This is nothing but the chewing of his bones by jackals who never understood him. So much of "Bruce" here is stuntmen and stand-ins with no real resemblance to the man.
this film is bad. Don't get me wrong i love Bruce and i have this film in my collection. The vision that Bruce lee had for this film is way different than what was shown on the movie screen. Bruce lee would roll in his grave for all the butchering
I understand what you are saying-but give it a couple of stars just for Bruce who makes any film he is in better, especially Enter the Dragon and Game of Death
Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure
Don't hate, appreciate. Why oh why have so many dragged this piece of gold through the dirt? It took me a long while to check this movie out because I was waiting for an all-region version with subtitles so I could evaluate this movie properly. People were dissing the plot before a version with subtitles was even available. I guess a bunch of you folks speak Thai. Though I doubt it.
I honestly don't get where all this animosity for this film comes from. People diss it because the girl is small so many basically sign right here off as weak. Size is a factor in power. That I can't deny, but also so is proper technique. With good technique any sized individual can manifest amazing power beyond their stature. I'd love for you folks to question the power of the small man who taught me Muay Thai. I'm a good sport so I would totally call an ambulance for you after I finished laughing my ass off at what he did to you.
Allow me to be equal parts sexist and scientific. There is a greater need for suspension of disbelief in any movie were a small or average sized chick physically takes out grown men. Because that doesn't happen. Men are bigger, stronger and have higher endurance to physical trauma than women. Don't give me that damn look. I didn't make up physics. Look dat shit up. So basically if you hold any film where a woman is a complete badass in high regard, then on some level you too have disregarded reason in favor of entertainment. Good for you, that is what it's there for.
The martial arts choreography and delivery in this film are exemplary as well as extraordinary. Many critics have touted Jeeji Yanin as the female Tony Jaa, which isn't really fair to her as she does have her own distinct style and flair, though many of the large and daring moves do have that trademark Thai seal of approval like Tony's stuff.
Honestly, folks, why are you dissing the plot of this movie? Yeah, the story is kind of lame, but is that really why you are watching? It is disgraceful for any action junkie to disregard or blast on this movie. Top class fights and stunts keep this in a league of its own, but the yummy violence doesn't stop there. There's some rough and tumble gunplay in full effect. The shootouts don't have the dramatic flair of say a John Woo film, so you won't see any slow-mo, two-gun, dive through the air, exchange fire for five minutes type of jazz. No, the gunplay is more Quentin Tarantino styled--abrupt, gritty, and in your face. No stand-offs. Usually when you see a piece in this flick, cats are in the process of getting shot the fuck up.
Also toward the end there is a balls out, slash 'em up sword battle that gets the blood flowing. That sword battle is raw and intense. If I had it my way, every flick would have to incorporate at least one swordfight or end with a swordplay duel. Hell, I would have actually watched "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" if I knew at the end they all kill each other with swords. That I would pay to see. Again, don't give me that damn look.
Some folks also say that the heroine doesn't get to take on a decent challange in the flick. You folks are forgetting about Mr. Adidas: four eyes, short bus, break dancing heavy twitcher. He was wild and very enjoyable to watch with his break dancing Capoiera-fu. How was he not a worthy challenge?
I tried my best not to give up the coveted five star grand prize, but this bad little ass kicker earned it. Is the story groundbreaking and Oscar worthy? Nope. Is it perfect? Not really. But excellence in the desired arena can trump all that garbage. When a movie excels in certain areas to such a phenomenal degree, and it achieves the intended type of entertainment that it was striving for with utmost quality, then all our pretensions and over-analyses become meaningless, because we know we were entertained and that chances are we are going back for second and third helpings. You don't do that with bad or mediocre flicks. You do that with great movies.
In my opinion, this is the best bad ass chick flick, trumping the reigning champs, "Yes, Madam" and "Book Of Heroes". I defy any reviewer here to find or name a better ass kicking chick movie. If you disagree with this review I'm going to expect you to name-drop a better bad-ass chick flick. If you can't think of one and are of the collection of reviewers that clocked on this movie, then I'm going to ask you to reevaluate your feelings on this film and watch it again. You may have missed something. Something great. You know the name and the game's still the same. Keep it real, folks. Peace.

As one who enjoys furious female action, I completely agree with your analysis, but like Choco stated there are some badass chix that are seperate but equal!
While mildly entertaining, this film is not even close to being in five-star realm. The fights were just more of the same and grew tedious after a while. And though her character is mentally challenged, the performance was just too one-note for me.
Obviously we're in total agreement on this one! But I will always hold a special place in my heart for other badass chix that are separate but equal! Lady Snowblood, Thriller, Hard Candy, all those awesome 80s HK girls with guns flix... It's all so good!
Legend Of A Fighter (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure a totaly waste of my hard earned money. very slow fights, dumb story.worst movie ever. if you want a good kung fu movie, than go for fearless, for the same mony, you get a 10 time better film!

this was far more realistic fights than in fearless, agree with ms10197
Have to agree with Sgt. T. on this one. You have to look at the film technology when the film was made. Old school kung fu stars had to really know their stuff, sfx was not as advanced.
Fearless is a newer film, of course it would be better action wise. This film was pretty good for the time it was made, you should be more tolerant on old school films or don't watch them.
Dirty Ho (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is one of Gordon Liu's best films. It has a smart story, halfway decent dubbing and great comic martial arts sequences.
Dirty Ho (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I was fooled by all the good reviews. Trust me, this film is a total waste of money. Get "Martial Club" instead, I guarantee it will be better.
