The Record (product link) Horror / Mystery God, this film absolutely reeks. Truly awful with bad acting, zero-logic plot, an obvious shoestring budget, and an ending that can only be described as an insult. Avoid.
Dream Of A Warrior (product link) Science Fiction / Romance Dreadful from the word go. Crap plot, very bad C.G.I. and terrible acting. Give this one a big miss.
Visitor Q (product link) Dark Comedy / Thriller I'm a pretty big Miike fan and I like my exploitation cinema, too; but I found this too much to cope with. I guess if this was made with the sole intention to shock (and it probably was) then it works. Sometimes it's so over-the-top that you can't help but snigger to yourself, but it still dosen't have the right to claim 90 or so minutes of your life, plus I hate the digital video look anyway. Check out "Audition", "City Of Lost Souls", "Happiness Of The Katakuris" et al. instead.
Ichi The Killer (product link) Crime / Action/Adventure It's certainly not for everyone but those broadminded enough should check this even just so you can tell other people that you've actually seen it.
Pretty typical of Miike, meaning that there is plenty of violence and insanity even though it isn't one of his best films. Still worth checking out and I've only seen the [edited] HK release. God knows what the full length version is like.

It has color, costumes and ideas, so of course it is unaccessible to some people. I like it better than you, but you are right about the open mind.
You may be right. It may require an open mind to enjoy this work of pure, unadulterated crap. Of course you know what they say about people that are so open-minded their brains fell out.
Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals (product link) Horror / Erotica Bless you Joe D'mato whereever you are. One of his very few good films. Cannibals, sex, gore, and Laura Gemser in the nude. What more do you need?
28 Days Later (product link) Horror / Thriller You have to say that Director Danny Boyle has certainly done a variety of different films ("Trainspotting", "The Beach", etc.) and now comes his "zombie" movie--although he's denying that tag (who's he kidding?). One of the few effective and watchable things I've ever seen shot on digital video, this is a film that a lot of people I know either love or hate. Well I fit in with the former group. Check out the fastest-moving and most hectic zombies ever (yes, and that beats Lenzi's "Nightmare city"). Very dark, apocalyptic, and extremely good fun.
Ebola Syndrome (product link) Horror / Thriller Probably the last truly great cat-3 before the H.K. takeover in 1997. Anthony Wong gives an outstanding (and totally over the top) performance. Truly wonderful and twisted. They don't make them like this anymore.
Naked Killer (product link) Drama / Action/Adventure Believe the hype. "Naked Killer" is one of the best movie experiences you could ever have. Nuff said.
Wooooaaah. Easily the finest giallo I have ever seen (and I'm a big giallo fan). In fact, this is one of the finest films ever...in any genre. Pupi Avati, as some may know is really an arthouse movie maker so as you can imagine it's expertly crafted. His skills carry this beauty and give off chills, creepiness and intense paranoia. Sure, it's a slow burner and goes along at its own pace but the twisted and disturbing finale makes it all worthwhile--plus it has some of the most beautiful and breathtaking shots ever committed to celluloid. Most giallos have a funky, jazzy feel to them but this is very dark and gothic. Fucking awesome. check out Avati's other classic, the amazing "Zeder", too. It's not as good but well worth tracking down. It's a pity this guy didn't do more stuff like this. He would have been mentioned in the same breath as Argento, Fulci and Bava, that's for sure.
This movie is excellent and anyone who loves giallos or Italian horror should get this pronto.
Full Alert (product link) Action/Adventure / Bullet Ballet Awesome is one word to describe this underrated masterpiece which in my humble opinion is Ringo Lam's finest. It may not be as fast with the action compared to Lam's other classics such as FULL CONTACT or THE AVENTURERS but it certainly belongs up there in the same league as THE KILLER, A BETTER TOMORROW etc. Excellent
