Bullet In The Head (product link) Action/Adventure / War Not going to belabor the point - this is a John Woo masterpiece. If only this had been (as Woo planned), Mark Gor's backstory and been "A Better Tomorrow 3". Still, everyone is firing on all cylinders, and it's a ride-and-a-half both physically and emotionally. Jacky Cheung in particular will have you crying your eyes out by the conclusion, and all the principals fully embody Woo's portrayal of brotherhood and betrayal to the fullest.
Gamera The Brave (product link) Science Fiction / Action/Adventure Gamera's back! But not really. But that's really not the point, as Gamera is for the most part a peripheral, albeit exciting and well-executed, element to a family drama. I don't know if I would have taken the same approach, but after the kick-assness of the previous three films (each topping the other in realism and emotional content), maybe it was time to start over. Basically juvenile fare, but if you don't think too hard it's pretty innocuous and definitely entertaining. For something in the same vein done better, if not more over-the-top freewheeling, check out Steven Chow's "CJ7".
Naked Killer (product link) Drama / Action/Adventure A completely guilty pleasure, almost soft-core in nature, but full of Wong Jing's singularly offbeat approach. Can't get enough of just watching Chingmy Yau effortlessly emote, but Simon Yam's against-type approach is right up there with his over-the-top performance in "Full Contact". The humor is crude and sometimes forced, but applies well to the comic-book approach to the prurient subject matter. Sit back, have a mental margarita (or a real one), and enjoy.
Fearless [2006] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Have little to add to everyone else's sterling reviews, other than the fact that I prefer the uncut version. Michelle Yeoh's explanatory (and ultimately ironic) narrative about Wu Shu and its creator works very well, and the last scene is a wonderful and poignant, if not un-needed, grace stroke to this wonderful film. Ronny Yu and Peter Pau have mad glorious films together (my favorite still being "The Phantom Lover") and will hopefully continue to do so.
The Killer [1989] (product link) Bullet Ballet / Drama Can't say anything about the movie that hasn't been said more eloquently elsewhere, and I'm a "Hard-Boiled" Judas in that I actually like this movie more.
