Say Yes (product link) Thriller / Horror If psychological thrillers are your thing, you may enjoy this. Starts out slow, and some of the dialog pacing is sluggish, but the acting is good and the film progresses into a poor-man's "Friday The 13th" fight for survival, for a young couple who mistakenly picks up a hitch-hiker. Let's just say, any other human would've died by now.
Also, having watched American thrillers, I was completely caught off guard by the scene near the end. The film gives a bleak outlook on the state of humanity and didn't show the police with much competence. Hide the razorblades and cutlery. You won't want to keep living after watching this one.
Coonskin (product link) Animation / Action/Adventure If you are easily offended, don't watch this film. If not, give it a try.
Ralph Bakshi pulls no punches in this Harlem-based take on the tale of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear. No race, religion, social status, gender, sexual preference or curse word is safe from teasing. The "N" word flows quite frequently, and not as a term of 'Gangsta' endearment.
While the film is chock full of outrageous, over-the-top, Felix The Cat/Max Fleischer-esque, slapstick animation, the film takes the opportunity to mix in gripping social commentary about America, during that time period. Animation and live action are brought together well before Roger Rabbit. Listen for the voice of Al "Grandpa" Lewis from the Munsters TV series.
Mr. Vampire (product link) Horror / Comedy If you like Hong Kong slapstick, you should enjoy this. Kind of a "what if the Three Stooges knew martial arts?" Being an American, I never understood the concept of warehousing the undead, but it still leads to some humorous plights. Plus, the lady ghost is gorgeous.
