The Iron Monkey [1977] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure What can you expect from Chen Kuan Tai? Lots of action and great kung fu. The plot is used much in the Hong kung fu genre, but hey who cares about the plot. The final confrontation is already your money's worth.
Shaolin Martial Arts (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Kung fu buffs will love this film (I know I did), especially the training sequences of Fu Sheng, with his trademark tiger and crane style. He really is adept with it. It is good to see Yuen Shao Tien (Jackie Chan's teacher in "Drunken Master" and "Snake In The Eagle's Shadow" films) in his youth as Fu Sheng's tiger-crane sifu.
A fun movie to lose yourself into with heroism, loyalty and idealism thrown in for good measure.
Police Force (product link) Crime / Action/Adventure Chang Cheh leaves the period picture to present heroism in contemporary times and what have you got police force. Of course, with Liu Chia Liang at the helm of the action scenes what can you expect. The film has lapses in the plot but it all makes up for the action.
The Valiant Ones (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure If you're one for nostalgia and trivia then this is your stuff. King Hu's production gives us not just a glimpse but a spectacular scenery of Hong Kong cinema. Sammo Hung's fast and great martial art moves could be scene here.
The plot has been re-done by Tsui Hark's "Swordsman 2", but King Hu's direction and the film's cinematography is breathtaking.
Invincible One (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Fu Sheng as the naive and mischievous kung fu bumpkin gives a convincing performance as a martial artist doomed from the very start. his death could have been avoided and a totally different but splendid ending could have been provided had Chi Kuan Chun's character revealed what happened to him at the start. But, hey, Chang Cheh is the master of masculine heroism and here he shows them with great intensity.
