Zus & Zo (product link) Comedy / Romance Funny movie with a gay theme. Frothy and amusing. Nicely done. The kind of movie Hollywood just doesn't get. You should.
Encantado (product link) Mystery / Action/Adventure A well crafted movie set in Cuba. If you like lusty pot-boilers, this one's for you. Beautiful women; handsome, masculine men and a telenovela plot to sweep you off your feet. Take Kleenex and prepare for the worst. You'll not be disappointed.
The King And The Clown [China DVD-5] (product link) Drama / Comedy Beautiful costumes, wonderful scenery, a great cast - playing out the story of two wandering entertainers in ancient Korea.
One of the two young men becomes the lover of the emperor, the other in an attempt to win his friend's freedom ultimately sacrifices his eyes in a gruesome scene. In the end the two men resume their minstrel ways happily and together. A fine motion picture from Korea which deserves to be widely viewed. Highly recommended.
In A Glass Cage (product link) Horror / Thriller Frightening look at the post traumatic result of Nazi death camps. A former Nazi, now in an iron lung, is forced to confront his evil past - by one of the boys who escaped his former captor. Horror of the most terrible kind. Think of Pasolini's "Salo" and beware! But watch if you dare. Nasty, but very well done.
Het Mes (product link) Drama Fascinating look into the not so distant past - in Holland. Good "boy" story of a kid moving through puberty, having been raised in an up-tight household. Finally recognizing his mother's need for companionship and his own need to move on.
El Topo (product link) Drama / Action/Adventure Oldie but goodie! Fascinating, illogical film once considered a "midnight movie" special. Watch it with a friend, you'll know why. If you understand it, call me....
Tropical Malady (product link) Drama / Romance "Tropical Malady" is a fascinating, absorbing film that is both tender and frightening. I got greater pleasure from a second viewing, since some of the action is subtle and in the background. It is a film that I will watch several times with the expectation that I will see something new each time. At first "Tropcal Malady" seemed like two separate disconnected parts: but slowly the relevance of part two to to the first part became ever clearer as the action in the depths of the dim, dark jungle reveals its relevance to the whole. A fine film that requires an active brain to see, really see all the beauty and love. Excellent photography and a very well told tale. Highly recommended.
