Beautiful and terrifying, "Cannibal" had me truly enthralled, disgusted and finally nervous to continue watching without a bucket nearby. "Cannibal" is mainly a silent movie, and the writer (and director) Marian Dora has done an excellent job at conveying the narrative without any dialogue. It's lucky the film isn't dialogue heavy anyway because the dialogue that is here is terrible. It's this weird German accented English dub and it sounds very bad. "Cannibal" is gory but gory in a more subdued and realistic way which makes it all the worse. The special effects are incredibly realistic and gut churning. It's a slow and artistic film and the build up to the 'flesh' arriving is intensely creepy. I reccommend this film very highly but will be afraid to rewatch it as it is very dark material and truly scared me.
Additionally I'll mention that the film has lots of male nudity, so if it bothers you you may want to give the film a pass.
It isn't a bad film. Though the story is quite convoluted and doesn't really match the description that appears on the back of the dvd case. Their are some good fights with swords and guns, though some of it is filmed poorly in mid-shot, missing out on the action. The dubbing quality is good and the 82 or so minutes seemed to go by pleasantly enough. I definitely call it a bit of a cult film and for the price it's a reccommended addition to people's collections.
