A young scholar seeking solitude takes refuge in an old house that is haunted by a beautiful ghost, played by a young and beautiful Brigitte Lin. I didn't even recognize her, as I was used to seeing her play the more manly women roles she became famous for. She was a knockout. As a reluctant ghost under the control of a demon, she has lured many men to their deaths but falls in love with the scholar.
The cheesy dragon special effects at the end are the only weak point, and the scenes are very quick. A great, unjustly neglected film, well acted and very, very touching. Two thirds of the way through the film, you will think the title should have been "The Ghost in the Well" as I did, but the title is correct.
Goliath And The Barbarians / Goliath And The Vampires [DOUBLE FEATURE] (product link) Action/Adventure / Fantasy Watching these movies brings back great memories of drive-in movies and a simpler time. This double feature has the two most popular stars of the sand and sandal era: Steve Reeves, who was the most popular, and Gordon Scott, who was number two but the better actor.
In "Goliath and the Barbarians", Reeves seeks vengeance against the barbarian hordes who destroyed his village. In "Goliath and the Vampires", Scott seeks the invaders who destroyed his village. There are really no vampires but there is a demon who needs human blood.
Both movies are a lot of fun and are two of the best of the genre.
Sola Aoi: Sexy Teacher (product link) Erotica A better than average softcore film. Mei has just graduated from college but can't get a teaching job. She also has a recurring nightmare of a hanging man. She had been molested while in college, and reported the man to the police, but he hanged himself. She finally gets a position as a private tutor, but while on the train to her employer's home she is groped by a young man on the train who turns out to be her pupil. This though is no accident, but part of a plot.
This has a better plot than most softcore sex films. The acting is adequate, the two girls are beautiful, and there are several really hot sex scenes. It was worth buying. If only it had been shot on film instead of video.
The Scandalous Warlord (product link) Comedy / Erotica A fairly good Shaw Brothers comedy. A 1930's warlord discovers that all of his concubines are having affairs with his staff officers. They all get married, but he has his revenge. He also has an almost identical twin brother who tries to pass himself off as the warlord. Good Shaw Brothers production values and some very beautiful women.
Frankenstein Created Woman / The Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires [LE 2-Disc Set] (product link) Horror / Thriller Two lesser Hammer horror films that are still mindly entertaining. If you have never seen the the full version of "Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires", which was drastically editied in U.S., you definitely should check this out. It is worth seeing at least once. "Frankenstein Created Woman" though leaves a great deal to be desired. It is not bad but it isn't that good either.
Hera Purple: Devil Goddess (product link) Thriller / Mystery I took a chance on this and I'm glad I did. A woman goes to see a psychiatrist. She is feeling anxious and she feels like there is someone else inside her. Under hypnosis she tells of her dreams in which she and/or her alter-egos seduce men and then kill them while maiking love to them. At first the murders seem random but eventually you find out there is a pattern.
The women are beautiful and there are several very hot softcore sex scenes. There is also an attempt to give some of the characters some depth and the ending has a sad twist.
The acting ranges from not so good to good. The lead actress is particularly good. There are some major plot holes though and why the goddess Hera gets involved seems to be just tossed in with no reason given.
This is good cheesy fun with some great hot Korean women.
Fox Ghost (product link) Erotica / Ghost A pretty good category 3 film with a decent plot, good acting and some very beautiful, nude women. If only it had been shot on film instead of video...
Silip: Daughters Of Eve (product link) Erotica / Drama A story that involves sexual repression, lesbianism, and mob violence, a great score--and beautiful naked women. Bad over-the-top acting to good acting, but beautiful naked women. Bad dubbing, but beautiful naked women. Violent (they actually kill a cow in the beginning, and one man loses his head), but beautiful naked women. And a downer of an ending, but beautiful naked women.
Highly recommended for those who like outrageous movies--and beautiful naked women.

There is a disclaimer on the dvd advising against watching the inferior english dub, watching it in original Tagalog with entierly different music soundtrack makes it a different film. Also, there is no lesbianism in this film, at all. Rent a porn tape!
The Eroticist (product link) Comedy If you are looking for an Italian sex comedy, which you might be considering the box art, forget this film. There are a few good scenes of nice T and A, but not that much. If you want to see a good Italian satire that takes very funny stabs at politics, the military and the Catholic church, check this film out. It is very funny
A popular Italian politician has an obsession with the female derrier and has to go into seclusion to get help with his problem. He ends up in a convent with several beautiful nuns. A very funny and highly recommended film.
The Contract Lover (product link) Romance / Comedy A young man's very traditonal family wants him to bring his very modern and untraditional girlfriend home so they can meet her. Concerned that his mother and father will not accept her, he hires someone to be his girlfirend, act completely outrageous, alienate his mother and father after which they will be more than happy to accept the less untraditional rela girlfriend. He hires a conservative girl to play the role who desperately needs the money for her mother.
The things that the girl does to try and upset his parents are very funny, and this is a very very good Hong Kong comedy. Highly recommended.
Hideout In The Sun (product link) Erotica / Crime One of the first of the nudist colony films, and the first film by Doris Wishman. There is not much of a plot, but the color and photography is great. There is also an innocence in the film and the women are beautiful and NATURAL (not silicone based life forms).
Crucifix Rope Play (product link) Erotica There are no English subtitles [on the version I watched], but it is not a big problem, although there does seem to be a plot. The Japanese actress is beautiful and you get to see a lot of her. My only complaint is that it takes too long to get to the rope action. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that it is film and not video.
Rica (product link) Erotica / Action/Adventure A Toho attempt to make a "Pinky Violence" film. Good acting, good production values, a very beautiful actress, good action, but a little too much squirting blood for my tastes. Also, somehow it just doesn't quite fit in with other Pinky Violence films. Still quite good.
Sensual Pleasures (product link) Erotica / Drama Pretty good Shaw Brothers adult comedy. There are three different stories with sex being a factor in all three. A great deal of the humor does come across. This was a pleasant surprise as humor is often lost from one culture to another. The women are also beautiful to see and you see a lot of them.
My Dream Boat (product link) Drama / Romance Above average Shaw Brothers melodrama about several friends and the tragedy that a love triangle causes. Well acted, great color and photography. A good "chick flick", but guys might have some trouble geting through it (my date loved it, but it was a little tough going for me).
Fairy, Ghost, Vixen (product link) Drama / Ghost Three stories about encounters with a fairy, a ghost and a "vixen" (actually a jealous goddess). Well acted, good writing with a little something to say. Definitely worth watching.
Angel Delight (product link) Erotica Some very attractive women in a fair catagory 3 film. If it had had a decent budget, my rating would have been higher. The acting and action are above average.
Shogun's Joy Of Torture (product link) Horror / Erotica A disturbing Japanese "pink" film. The women are beautiful but the torture scenes are harrowing. The ending torture chamber sequence is incredible.
Chinese Erotic Ghost Story (product link) Erotica / Fantasy A fair period/comedy/ghost category 3 movie. Adequate acting and some very pretty women, frequently undressed. Some good comedy moments.
Girls Without Tomorrow [1988] (product link) Drama Very well acted and fairly realistic story of prostitutes in 1988 Hong Kong. Good drama, touching and tragic--particulary one sequence that is almost to tragic to watch. As usual a very good performance by Maggie Cheung. NOT a category 3 film. Just watch, a pretty good film.
Hidden Desire (product link) Erotica / Drama This is actually a better than average category 3 film with some very beautiful women frequently undressed, and adequate acting. I recommend this film.
Starlets For Sale (product link) Erotica / Drama Hong Kong starlets need extra money and earn it on the side as prostitutes. It makes the news when finally discovered, there is a scandal; and in the end the women realize that no matter how great their need, what they did was wrong. This is a very well made Shaw Brothers film with great color and photography and good acting, and was a big hit the year it was released. It is sad and tragic at times, but also, particularly at the end, very touching. An added bonus is a lot of nudity from some very beautiful women. It's almost a crime it is only avalible on VCD [at the time of this writing]. If it is ever put on DVD I'm buying that also. Very recommended. You could also probably watch this with a significant other.
Vietnamese Lady (product link) Erotica / Drama An older man is attracted to and asks a much younger woman to be his mistress. She refuses at first; but her father becomes ill, and she needs money to take care of him, so she accepts. She later meets a man closer to her age, and the older man reluctantly lets her go. He then realizes he had actually ended up in love with her. She finds out the younger man is a jerk, that realizes she to was in love with the man she left. It ends happily.
The plot is simple, the acting adequate, and the are a lot of softcore sex scenes with some beautiful Asian women. Recommended. If not for the sex scenes it would actually be a fair date film.
Caligula Reincarnated As Hitler! (product link) Horror / Erotica This is probably the best of the Italian German prison camp movies made in the 1970's. It had the highest budget and the best acting and plot (relatively speaking). A German officer becomes obsessed with one of the prisoners and does anything he can to break her to his will. The girls are beautiful and there is a lot of nudity, but the film is so nasty, violent and realistic that there is nothing stimulating or erotic. For fans of this genre though it is a must see.
Girls Without Tomorrow [1992] (product link) Drama This is about the lives of five Hong Kong prostitutes circa 1990. Some good performances and, at times, a somewhat realistic look at their experiences make this a decent melodrama (my girlfriend cried a little near the end). The 1988 version is better though.
Sex And Zen (product link) Erotica / Comedy A Chinese scholar believes knowledge can be gained by numerous sexual encounters. The very high level of the production, direction, photography, and acting puts this film on the level of the classic "Emmanuelle" films of the mid seventies, and is too good to be considered a typical category 3 film. A must see.

I think you are essentially correct. This is a classic movie, and I like the two sequels as well, but the original is usually best.
