Bio: I am a movie fanatic and have always been one since I was a child. I can watch any type of movies and hold no boundaries on what genres I would watch. However, martial arts, action, and horror are still my favorite all the way. I know alot, and probably way too much about films and feel I can offer some very worthy perspectives on films and entertainment. I love to learn more about films and learning overall so my mind never wears out. Hit me up if you have any questions whatsoever.
Ong-Bak 2 (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Let me clear something up: this film was made only for die-hard martial arts fans, so quit all of the hating! This movie has all of the cliches of a classic martial arts movie but it comes with all of the goodies too! The fights are classic and show that Tony Jaa is indeed the next legend of action cinema. Now stop reading this and go watch the movie!

I knocked to 4 1/2 stars but I agree, why is everybody bitching about how bad this movie is? True martial arts fans will like this, who cares what everyone else thinks?
Red Cliff (product link) Drama / Historical This was a great movie and it's great to see John Woo back doing Chinese films again--well actually, it's great to see him doing films again period. This movie has very few action pieces, but goddamn it's epic. The battles aren't there just for show, and the story and script make the action scenes so truly grand. The brotherhood and honor themes from many of Woo's films are in here; and even though the movie goes past two hours, it didn't bore me for one minute. The characters are great to watch, the story is great, the action isn't what you'd expect--and it's great because it's not there just to be there. Highly recommended. I'm looking forward to the second part due out this winter.

John Woo is back with a vengence with this thrilling character period film. I am also looking forward for the second part. Plus I agree that the movie is long but it's not boring one bit.
The Sword Stained With Royal Blood [1981] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I loved this film, one of my favorite Shaw Brothers movies ever! Everything is great, such as the production (as expected), the story, the characters, the actors and actresses, the action, and so on. Definitely a classic, it deserves multiple viewings.

This is also one of my favorite shaw films too. The movie is awesome.
Wing Chun (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Another great 90's martial arts flick from the legendary Yuen Wo Ping. Michelle Yeoh is excellent and charming as Wing Chun, but Donnie Yen plays a very unusual role compared to his other films. For one, he's more clumsy and doesn't get to show any of his stuff at all in this film, except for one jump kick maybe. Our lead villain, Norman Tsui, is awesome as ever and does a great job as the intimidating bad ass. The action scenes are classic and will recieve multiple viewings. A great film overall and worth owning.

Ridiculous wirework and, as usual, Donnie Yen doesn't do much more than preen like a schoolgirl in front of the camera.
Taegukgi (product link) Action/Adventure / War Everyone involved with this movie deserves a damn Oscar, because this is one of the greatest war movies ever made. The actors do a great job and the audience will laugh and cry with them until the credits start rolling. The film is long, but there's nothing in here that should ever be cut because every single scene matters. The script, the production, the music, the casting, everything is as close as movie perfection can get. A classic and cetainly unforgettable for the times to come.

This should have been called Saving Private Jin as this film is a derivative rip-off. Totally overrated, as is Shiri.
I wouldn't go that far w/ Oscar talk & all, it's just South Korea's "Saving Private Ryan". The movie is def. well done, the action is incredible. The cast was perfect. Hey check out the director's other film "Shiri" it's a great pic too.
Shutter [2004] (product link) Horror / Thriller One of the very few pale-chick-with-long-black-hair horror movies that managed to leave me unsettled in the dark for quite some time. When I thought that those j-horror rip-off flicks wouldn't scare me anymore, this movie proved my ass wrong big time. There's a hell of a twist in the end, and the story is an unexpected mystery that actually keeps you watching. A classic in its own right, so screw the horrible remake and watch this one.

Just like every other mediocre J-Horror ripoff, this movie is terrible.
The original is always the best. I agree this flick is def. a classic. The ending was brutal, and this film gave me chills. The remake was horrible, Hollywood will never understand.
Once A Thief (product link) Crime / Action/Adventure Another great John Woo flick, but this time this one has less stylized gun action and is more story and character driven. All of the actors do a wonderful job and the action is well put together by our legendary Shaw Brothers Venom Philip Kwok.

It's a zany but brutal Woo movie. "Once A Thief" always pops up in my head, I love everything about this film. It's a Caper flick with slow-mo action sequences and that is brilliant.
Odd Couple (product link) Martial Arts / Comedy A classic film that was considered being remade by Hong Kong studios. You get to see some of the most amazing fight scenes from our legendary martial arts actors Sammo Hung, Lau Kar Wing, and Lau Kar Yan. Trust me, this film will have you stunned by how well these guys fight. The story is typical but the characters are fun, and it's also fun to see Sammo and Lau Kar Wing play two roles. I love this film and hope that people will enjoy it as well.
Mr. Vampire (product link) Horror / Comedy Probably the best Chinese kung fu zombie flick ever made, it's the reason why so many films tried to reproduce what this movie did and is also the reason why Lam Ching Ying became so famous for his kung fu priest roles. To be honest, I thought this film was going to be garbage because I had gotten it [so cheap], but when I watched it, I have to admit I had a great time with it. There's a good amount of humor and the characters are interesting enough to keep the audience watching. There are no fancy fights here, even though Lam Ching Ying and Chin Siu Ho are both in it. But it's a very fun flick to watch. After viewing this film, I can see why so many sequels and rip-offs started to hit the market.
King Of Beggars (product link) Comedy / Nonsense Comedy One of Stephen Chow's best movies ever!! There are a lot of funny moments in this film that'll have you laughing hysterically, and suprisingly there are even some decent action scenes as a treat. Stephen Chow is great and shows that he can be both funny and serious whenever it is required. I loved this film and I know you'll love it as much as I do.
Ju-On: The Grudge 2 (product link) Horror / Thriller Even if you've seen the remakes, this one is probably the only one Takashi Shimizu didn't actually completely replicate, because the remakes have very few elements borrowed from here. This movie is far more spine chilling than the first, and you'll soil yourself more or less than I did. If you get scared easily, don't watch this because it's effin' creepy and shows why it's one of his greatest works.

Shimizu is a one-note hack who is about as versatile as Uwe Boll. Another terrible Shimizu film that was the exact same as the last.
Ju-On: The Grudge (product link) Horror / Thriller I nearly crapped myself when I saw this for the first time. If you've seen the remake then you may not like it as much as I did, because it's so similar. But if you havent seen the remake, make sure you didn't have a big meal 'cause you'll literally crap yourself out. This movie is creepy, frightening, and disturbing, so be warned.

This movie is creepily, frighteningly and disturbingly similar to every other horror movie Shimizu directed. If you've seen one, you've seen them all.
Heart Of Dragon (product link) Drama / Martial Arts "Heart Of Dragon" is a drama, with minimal action to back the film up, and my god this film is great. Sammo Hung plays Jackie Chan's mentally challenged brother, and goddamn these two played these roles to the fullest. This is probably the best acting I've ever seen from the two legends, because you start feeling all of their emotions every single scene. Though there is a limited amount of action, it's only there to push the characters and the story forward. I love this film and hopefully you all will love it as much as I did too.
City Hunter (product link) Comedy / Martial Arts I saw this movie when I was a kid and fell in love with it, and even though I'm older now I still love this film as much as I did then. First of all, this is a Hong Kong adaptation of the City Hunter anime, but I've never seen the anime so I can't comment on that. The movie itself however is very funny and extremely goofy, never boring the audience for a minute. The film has a lot of memorable scenes, but the Street Fighter scene is probably what you're going to remember the most. The Bruce Lee homage is also funny and especially gets you smiling if you're a huge kung fu fan like me. For some people, the action may not be as hardcore as some of Chan's other films, but it certainly doesn't disappoint. I love this movie and would recommend it all the way.
The Tai Chi Master [2005] (product link) TV Shows/Movies / Martial Arts Best TVB I've ever seen, and I actually wanted to see the complete series instead of the cut down version here. The action is spectacular and shows you why Yuen Wo Ping is the god of action and why Wu Jing is Hong Kong's next big thing. For a TVB, this show delivers, and you'll be wowed every time you see Wu Jing in action.
Dolls [2002] (product link) Drama / Romance I loved this film, it's very beautiful and romantic. If you're into drama movies, I recommend this one 100%. I loved the story, the acting, and everything about it.
Shogun Assassin [2-Disc Set] (product link) Action/Adventure / Swordplay/Sword(s) One of my favorite samurai films of all time!!! The honor, revenge, love, and way of the sword theme are all in here, along with much much more! I have to see the rest of the films, but I loved this one so I know I'll love the rest!
Running On Karma (product link) Drama / Dark Comedy A great film in terms of everything. The acting was top notch, the story was great, and there are very few things that people can hate on (except for Andy Lau's fake muscles). The film's main focus is the theory of karma, which is pretty much that you pay for what you've done, and this film builds a great and engaging story around that theory. The actors are convincing and the movie keeps you drawn in the whole time. This is Johnnie To's attempt to step away from crime movies for a bit, and it is a great one. I loved it and hope that everyone else who sees it loves it more or as much as I do.
Dog Bite Dog (product link) Crime / Drama Don't go in expecting a movie like "Unleashed", because this movie focuses more about environment than characters. Though similar to "Unleashed", this movie revolves around different characters who all grew up differently and are going on with their livese but happen to cross one another. The things they had gone through made them what they are, and this film clearly shows that. The fight scenes aren't your typical choreographed fights and stick to a more brutal and raw kills. As real as a movie can get, this movie shows there's no such thing as a good guy or bad guy, and in the end we all pay for our sins. A film you must watch and understand to fully appreciate.

This didn't go well w/ me as I hoped it would be. I was expectin a top notch HK flick from the golden years. I felt the melodramatic parts were cheesy. The meaningful ending did not belong. The movie started dark it should kept tht pace the whole way.
Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure The man is a combination of what made action icons so damn famous. He has the athleticism of Jackie Chan (only with more hops, LOL), the elegance and authenticity in his style and form of martial arts like Jet Li, the charisma that matches that of Bruce Lee, and the brutal but not as dangerous impacts of Donnie Yen. Combine all of these features times two and you get what the world now knows as Tony Jaa, the next legend of action and martial arts films. This movie is only a warm up showcase of what's to come from this man, and trust me, there's going to be a long list of films after this one. Definitely, definitely keep an eye out for this man and the legacy he is going to carve for himself.
Infernal Affairs (product link) Drama / Crime This movie has many moments of tension and keeps you hooked from beggining to end. The performances from our leads deserve an Oscar and the film is perfectly paced, which is why Hollywood re-made this movie and copied 99% of it, because altering it in any way wouldn't be as great as it already is. A great film and I recommend it for anyone who has or hasn't seen the re-make known as "The Departed". If you've seen the re-make, watch this original and you'll know what im talking about; and if you haven't, then enjoy the show!

I agree this is a very tense movie from start to finish. I actually enjoyed the whole series. The orginal will always remain a classic. I also enjoyed "The Departed" I think it was overrated for best picture though but it was still good.
The Killer [1989] (product link) Bullet Ballet / Drama Classic John Woo/Chow Yun Fat film and a must-see. I mean I can't say any more great things about this film that haven't already been said. The lovely Sally Yeh contributes a beautiful song and everyone delivers unforgettable performances. I loved it, you will too, and this film will probably be re-made by someone some day.
Jade Warrior (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I watched this film expecting nothing; and after viewing it, I watched it over again a couple of times. Why? Because for a low-budget film, this movie proves that you don't need a huge amount of cash to make a beautiful film. Visually, this film captures the elegance of the actors' movements very well and the scenery looks amazing. The fight scenes are well constructed. Even though the slow motion thing is played out, I still managed to enjoy it. The Finnish legend also brings up that mystical feel and blends in very well with the Chinese wuxia tradition. The music has that Chinese/Finnish feel and does a lot to set the beautiful and distant tone of the film and fits in just perfectly. I loved this film and hope that an R1 version comes out with some extra goodies so I can enjoy them.

I couldn't really get into this Finnish fu movie. Yeah I know it's beautiful to look at, but other then that it was too much style and enough originallity in the fight scenes.
Tom Yum Goong (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I loved this film even more than "Ong-Bak", even though they're both awesome as hell. This one had more fighting, while "Ong-Bak" was more of a Tony Jaa showcase. He's the next action legend, so everyone has to keep an eye on him!

Damned straight Movie Freak! I love both movies but TYG included more crazy fighting which is a very good thing!
Oh yeah, this as one of the best martial arts flicks released in the last 15 years. I dig this flick better than "Ong Bak" as well. In this one he got to showcase way more variety and give a shocking exploration of his wicked skillz.
Invincible Pole Fighter (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure If you haven't seen this movie, you might as well stop watching action flicks, because this is clearly the king of all old school action movies. Brilliant in eveything and there's nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Trust me, you'll watch this one numerous times and appreciate it for how great it is.
This is the reason why many Chinese filmmakers stopped making kung fu flicks and started making cop flix with heavy stunt work. Jackie Chan wowed audiences everywhere and showed the world that you didn't need a huge Hollywood budget to make an engaging action movie. The stunts in the film made your jaw drop, the fight scenes were totally different from what you'd expect from a Chinese film, and the film entertained the hell out of people. Jackie is the reason why people had to change their ways of filmmaking if they wanted to keep up. The kung fu, hand-to-hand combat got played out and Chan revolutionized filmmaking with his originality and new concepts. I believe Jackie Chan was the reason why Chinese filmmakers abandoned kung fu action and went for a more raw and real style of action. This film started it all, and the films that came afterwards had to top the previous. A classic, and even after multiple viewings you'll see why the man is a legend in his own right.
Five Fingers Of Death (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Definitely underrated as a martial arts gem, probably because of the fact that there were too many of them. This film stars one of Shaw Brothers' legends, Lo Lieh, and is one hell of an entertaining and revolutionary film. For one thing this is one of the first martial arts films to ever hit US theaters in preparation for "Enter The Dragon". In technical aspects, I believe this film was the first to use the white powder to make the hits look more bone-crunching, and the use of the trampolines to make the actors jump higher and give a better looking performance. Overall, this is another Shaw Brothers classic and is one you shouldn't pass up.
The One Armed Swordsman (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Sure, the movie didn't have the Shaw Brothers stars we've come to admire, BUT this film is the reason why so many other filmmakers have managed to make classics. Chang Cheh's "One Armed Swordsman" showed brotherhood and honor to the full extent and is a beautifully shot film. Wang Yu is charismatic as ever and the film is packed with actors many people may recognize from other films, such as Liu Chia Liang himself playing a villain, and Yuen Wo Ping as one of the extras Wang Yu kills. Sure, the action's outdated, but without this film, Chinese cinema may have gone a different route. Considering the fact that this film revolutionized Chinese filmmaking, inspired so many other film directors, and was a masterpiece to watch, I feel that it's a perfect film.
The Magnificent Butcher (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Probably one of Sammo Hung's greatest films ever. This movie is a representation of why kung fu films gained such a huge fan base. Sure, the story was the same as the majority of other kung fu flicks, but the simple story and breath taking action sequences are what made kung fu movies so damn popular. Kwan Tak Hing, the star of the original black and white Wong Fei Hung movies, also makes a magnificent apperance and shows us why he was such a legend in the old Hong Kong film era. "The Magnificent Butcher" is packed with nothing but spectacular fights and is one of those classic kung fu films that show us why no one can reproduce what they did in their era of filmmaking.
House Of Flying Daggers (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This movie was great in terms of everything needed to make a masterpiece. Zhang Yimou crafted a piece of art using a simple romantic tale of two lovers on opposite sides just trying to be together regardless of what their comrades believe. The fight scenes in here are breath taking--trust me, when you see that dagger get thrown, you won't blink. Visually, the film looks like a beautiful painting transferred to reality. Some may argue that the story is the weakest of the three Zhang Yimou wuxia epics, but I feel that this is the reason why this film succeeded. If it became too complex, then fitting everything else wouldn't balance the film out too well. The actors do a wonderful job from beggining to end, engaging the viewers with every action, word, and expression they perform. This film is going to be remembered as a classic, along with many of Zhang Yimou's other films.

Another supremely pretentious movie from Yimou. Monochromatic color schemes do not automatically make a film brilliant.
Once Upon A Time In China Trilogy [US 2-Disc Set] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Some of Jet Li's best movies ever. The third one's not as good as the first two, but the trilogy with him overall is great.
Fulltime Killer (product link) Bullet Ballet / Action/Adventure I thought this film was excellent and is an instant classic. You have to see for yourself to believe.
Flirtong Scholar (product link) Nonsense Comedy / Fantasy The first Stephen Chow film I ever saw, and the reason why I became such a big fan of the man. The film is funny as hell, and there is some decent action along the way too. I love it and so will his fans.
cult classic, these movies are beyond words. Be careful the book of the dead is buried somewhere, reading from it brings forth demons of hell dimensions.
Enter The Dragon (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I love Bruce Lee, and this movie is a classic. It opened up the film market to martial arts films and gave the genre many new fans. Own it.
Election (product link) Triad / Crime Probably one of the most complex and craziest Chinese gangster films ever made. Classic, and better than the sequel. Trust me, this film won't bore you at all.
