Anthropophagus: The Grim Reaper [Digital Versatile Disc] (product link) Horror / Thriller Whereas I had high hopes for this film, I found myself sorely disappointed. The film lopes along, never building suspense, never offering the effects one would expect from a film that had been "banned" and for some reason is [available in] a 2-disc set. Avoidance is my recommendation here.
Contamination (product link) Science Fiction / Horror The half star rating is affixed merely because there MAY be something worse...the film Basketcase comes to mind. Another film I had hopes for, Contamination is a complete letdown. It appears that most any film that glorifies its packaging with "now uncut" or "finally restored" turns out to be a contrived piece of crap. The cheesiest of effects and dismal dialogue cant even benefit from music by Goblin. Italian horror at its worst.
The Eye [2002] (product link) Thriller / Horror A suspenseful, thrilling ride, easily as good if not better than the Grudge (which personally I enjoyed more than The Ring-original versions). Just as you think it may end with no closure at all, the fashion in which many eastern films tend to...the viewer's ride speeds forward still. The Eye is also quite stylish and well filmed.
Mucha Sangre (product link) Horror / Comedy Most entertaining! Mucha Sangre is a hilarious, bloody, action filled romp nearly on par with Peter Jackson's best genre offering. I found only one running joke to be distasteful to me, or at least less than funny. Highly recommended dark comedy horror farce.
