Bio: I have been a martial arts film fanatic for years. While I applaud America's attempt to enter this market, nothing beats old school kung fu for me. I like seeing actors and actresses that really can do their own fight scenes with out a cut after every move. As my screen name says, to me no one rocks it like Ti Lung.

The Deadly Knives (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

This was a film using the old, tired formula of the low life, sneaky, law breaking Japanese bullying the righteous, upstanding, loyal Chinese. This formula works only if you have a good cast and good fighting...this film had neither.

NI did'nt think it was that bad. I liked Ling Yun in the lead, and I thought he had good chemistry with Ching Li. Granted he was not Bruce Lee and Ching Li was not Nora Miao, but I thought they were okay!Sgt. T

Duel Of The Iron Fist (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

This was my very first Ti Lung film; and as much as I hate to admit it, by the end of this film, I simply could not stand the sight of Ti Lung! Yeah, it's true.

This film is about two rival gangs who slash and lunge at each other from start to finish. This film starts with Ti Lung's gang attacking the other gang at a funeral (I think); then that evening during their 'victory' celebration, Ti Lung's gang is attacked, his father is murdered so he goes on the run accepting the blame for everything. A year later Ti Lung returns, his brother is a broken down drunk, his girl is working in a whore house and his father's possesions have been taken over by one of his own gang members...Oh and David Chiang spends most of the film flipping around his greasy looking hair.

The acting in this film was horrible (even Ku Feng who is one of the best actors out there) and Ti Lung was the worst. He totally over acts in every scene, his 'tough' face looks more like a spoiled brat pouting and when he slaps his girlfriend for being forced to work in a whore house and tells her she isn't good enough to speak his name and that she should be ashamed...my blood was boiling! Yes, when it finally sinks in how miserable she has been without him, he rushes to her and all is forgiven...by her...not me. Also, I don't mind a little 'ham' with my movies, but the end where David Chiang and Ti Lung keep pulling themselves up just to fall back into the muddy water over and over and over...was a bit much. But hey, they can't all be 5 star films.

Now many years and 80 Ti Lung films later, if you look real close, I mean REAL close, every now and then you will see a tiny trace of the gorgeous, mature, talented hunk of stuff this man was soon to become.

All I can say is thank goodness 'The Avenging Eagle' came on the following week.

NI first saw this on the big screen during the martial arts movie craze, so I'm a little biased. I agree about the ending being hammy, but the rest of the film was okay. Three stars in my book.Sgt. T
NI agree that Ti Lung soon became much better, but I still found his performance here pretty good. David Chiang, on the other hand, was as hammy and unconvincing as usual.Jeffrey Frawley
