Onibaba (product link) Drama / Horror As movies go, this one is brilliant. The photography, the direction, the acting and editing are all above par, especially given the age of this movie. Just listening and watching the wind rush through the reeds by the river's edge will be ingrained into your skull after you've seen this film.
What does this film offer? Betrayal. Lust. Horror. Manipulation. And the insight into just how low the human soul will go to survive and have control. From the opening scene of the wounded soldiers, to the frightening ending, you will be mesmerized by this film with its erotic nature. I can't say enough about this film. Originally I rented it, and then hkflix put it up and I bought it just to say I own a piece of film history, and a film with a shocking story as potent now as it was then...
Massacre In Dinosaur Valley (product link) Action/Adventure / Horror To be honest, no this isn't the best film in the world. But then again, this isn't a film hoping to win an Oscar. It's an exploitation film about a hero, some hot females, a crashed plane, cannibals, really bad men, and tons of nudity and violence.
And for me, it's a fun film. I know what I'm getting into and I'm honest about it. It kinda drags in parts, and the ending chapters really do kinda' bog it down, but it has more exploitation than you can shake a stick at. Not that I'm all about the boobs and carnage, I'm more about the fun and sometimes "laughability" of the film. And for that, this movie sticks out for me.
All in all, I give it 3 stars [out of 5]. It's kinda brainless and not perfectly done, but it's a good ride with bumps that takes you where you want to go.
A Tale Of Two Sisters (product link) Thriller / Horror I just watched "Two Sisters" tonight, and what can I say...I still have chills, I still have images from the film flashing in my mind, I'm still thinking about the story and twists and turns that have taken place.
I mean really, what more do you want in a film that makes you think, scares you, and wraps it all up with artistic flair?
Please Don't Eat My Mother (product link) Comedy / Erotica Well, well well, what can I say? It's an older cheesy boobie flick. It's got cute moments, sleazy ones, and the story won't break your brain while you're watching it.
Nope, this one's about the boobies. I mean, really, what were you expecting?
And in that sense, it delivers a bunch. I really couldn't complain, me being a hetrosexual male who is obviously into boobies, I mean, that's the whole reason I bought this.
Oh and that the story is kinda cute too.
I mean, how can you argue about watching a flick that has a plant that eats naked girls? Don't expect special effects galore here though, expect skin. And cheesy dialogue. And acting that makes you grin and grimace.
Heh, this review is WAY longer than I thought it would go...
Alrighty. I'm the type of guy who likes a variety of movies. I like exploitation all the way to really deep soulful movies. I'm sure the folks at HKFlix wonder what I'm going to order next, be it from "The Return" to "Island of Death".
So why did I buy "Island of Death"? Well, because it was made out to be so shocking...so revolting...so full of blood, booty, and exploitation...hell, who wouldn't want to own this piece of history?
Well I'm glad I bought it, I can scare some of my friends and ex's with it...but ya know, they might laugh sometimes too. Yes laugh...no matter how exploitive this flick gets, it has some unintentional funny moments too. Like the cop and the plane.
Pure unadulterated laughter was heard from my room while I was watched this bit.
And I know the director didn't mean this, he even states this in the extras...but given his budget and the year this was made...yes, there are going to be some funny bits. and naughty bits. and gross bits.
So would I buy it again? Sure. Can I recommend this? To hardcore horror fans yes, to exploitive fans yes, to bad film fans yes, and to the curious...very much yes.
SPL: Sha Po Lang (product link) Crime / Drama Sure the action was pretty decent, but the stale characters, unreal direction, and plot that really didn't matter make for a flick that was more bland than classic.
All I can say is that this film is a lot more fun than "Burial Ground: Nights Of Terror", which had some of the stupidest people and situations ever. In fact, if this German production had a better budget and some slightly better actors, I think it would have been a pretty kick-ass movie--with some story revisions of course.
So can i recommend it? I dunno, depends on how much of a zombie hound you are, and just how much free cash you have. If you love zombies, have the extra cash, and wanna' hear some new killer swear words in Deutsch, then hell, go for it.
Hellevator: The Bottled Fools (product link) Horror / Science Fiction If you like your films to mess with your head, screw around with your vision, and then basically kick in all your senses, then "Hellevator" is the flick for you. It's the type of film Hollywood producers have nightmares about: a thinking person's twisted horror film.
Sukeban Boy (product link) Erotica / Action/Adventure What a film. Expect to be shocked, surprised, disgusted, titillated, and humored. And as long as you have an open mind and love cartoons you'll be fine. 'Cuz this is exactly what "Sukeban Boy" is; an adult cartoon that's full of off the wall humor and grossness.
And lots of boobs.
It has its faults; sometimes bad lighting, terrible acting, and sometimes scenes will drag out that you wish would end...but if you can get over that kind of stuff, it's a damn fun ride that will shock you and your comrades. I'm glad I bought it.
