Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (product link) Comedy / Horror This is a boring, lazy, and unfunny musical. I imagine if I were one the friends or hangers-on who were IN the movie, I might have cared to watch it; if only to see the other friends and hangers-on. If you weren't in this, move along, there is nothing for you here. If you were in this, don't tell anyone, just stay stoned and stay out of the film industry (not that you ever entered the "industry" per se).
Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem (product link) Science Fiction / Thriller Bad, not good. Not so-bad-it's-good. Just regular-type crappy-bad. Instead of Space Marines (per the AVP comics), we are subjected to hick-town teen romance. Oh and babies are killed. It's bad. Not good.

now, what is wrong with terminal infancy? j/k (does this make sense anyways???) Anyways this film sucks my fat!
Caveat: Even though I own this, I didn’t make it all the way through so maybe, just maybe, it gets really awesome towards the end.
I had calibrated my expectations low enough for a movie "inspired" by a video game but, man, what a crapfest. I really wanted to like it, if only for Sammo and Yuen Biao, but I couldn't do it. The special effects were neither special nor effective. For example: in one scene a kid holds up his fist with thumb at his ear and his pinky extended to his mouth to answer the phone. 'Cause, you know, in the future your cell phone with be an Avenging Fist Phone with optional pinky boom-mic attachment. That’s not futuristic; that’s extremely lazy filmmaking. There were other effects that tried to simulate Amime and Video game fighting. These failed.
But what about the story, you ask? Don’t ask. If there was one, it sucked. Acting? Yep, there some acting happening. Martial Arts? Um, see “special effects” above. The one thing promised that was delivered is that most of the cast (Sammo and Yuen excluded) are both young and hip. Yep, very hip. And pretty too; all the boys and girls are pretty. If you want hip and pretty, I suggest downloading JPop videos from the web instead.
One final thought: You might be thinking that any film with “Avenging Fist Finger Phones” must fall into the category of so-bad-it's-good. Feel free to apply generous doses of alcohol and see if you can find some enjoyment in this mess. Personally, the director seemed to just suck all the joy out of the film (maybe in an attempt to make a kung-fu "Blade Runner"?) that I couldn’t enjoy it on any level.

Trust me it does absolutely not get any better at all! So how much alcohol do I pour on the disc before I light it?
Rumble In Hong Kong (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I remember finding this years ago when I first started collecting Asian cinema. It shamelessly tried to capitalize on the then recent success of "Rumble In The Bronx".
Before I found HKFlix, I'd just trust what was on the video cover. Do not judge this movie by its cover! Jackie has a bit part as a bad guy's henchman. Buy it only if you just have to complete your Jackie library. That being said, it was fun to see Jackie with a giant mole (usually used in Chinese movies to indicate bad or slimy characters). The rest of the movie was not nearly as cool as Jackie's fake mole.
"Blade Runner" meets "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"? Sadly, no.
Stylistically, "Repo" is closer to a live-action comic book musical. It is trying very, very hard to be an "instant cult classic" which, by definition, is impossible. Don't get me wrong, I am not rating this 1 star because I don't like singing. For reference, I'm a guy who likes musicals, science fiction, and horror flicks. I like Anthony Stewart Head and Sarah Brightman as actors and singers. I like Paul Sorvino as an actor. This should have been a genre-blending film that I would love. Unfortunately, it is just too much of a mess. "Repo" can't decide what it wants to be; the singing is all over the map in style and quality, the plot and characters were confused, and the true villain, the writing is as stiff as a corpse. If this were written by Joss Whedon ("Buffy", "Serenity", "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog"), I'm sure it could have been great. As it is, I can't recommend it. Rent it if you're curious.
Rush Hour 3 (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Just all-around bad. I can't bring myself to go into details but this is cliché-ridden and awkward.
I finally got around to watching this on a plane. It made the trip seem longer. What a waste of talent; except for Brett Ratner who doesn't usually display any anyway.

THE UILTIMATE REVIEW! LISTEN TO REASON PEOPLESTH! :)
Laser Mission (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts This garners one star for b-movie humor value only. I bought this to have a full set of Brandon Lee DVDs in my collection. This movie makes "Showdown In Little Tokyo" look like a masterpiece of subtlety and skilled filmmaking.
If you watch this, try no to think about how great a career Brandon might have had.
The Stomp Tokyo review examines "Laser Mission" much better than I can, so please read that if you haven't already.
Wow. Wow! I just watched "Martial Angels" and I am speechless. This is a bad movie. The script (if there was one), direction, stunts, cinematography, special effects, and editing were all bad. The video quality (referring to Tai Seng’s US Version 2) looked like an unrestored 1991 film instead of the 2001 film that it is. This shouldn't be surprising, but I was really blown away at how bad it was. Not all girls-with-guns flix are winners, but this makes "Naked Killer" look like "Hard Boiled".
I am so glad I bought this though (and that it was so cheap)! I can't wait to inflict this on my friends! Just think of the drinking games:
Drink when you see insanely bad CG,
Drink when you see thieves crack a safe in a 4-foot-deep pool without coming up for air for five minutes,
Drink when the actresses look hot (strike that, you'll die of alcohol poisoning),
Drink when people and vehicles are drastically under-cranked (in funny key-stone cops’ fast-motion),
Drink when you feel bad about ogling the hot actresses when the masturbating rapist is on screen,
Drink when actresses turn into skinny stunt men,
Drink when dead henchmen come back to life to die in later scenes,
Drink when English is used intermittently by anyone (Drink twice when the subs don’t match the spoken English),
And finally, for the Designated Driver, drink when you see any female nudity.
Crying Freeman (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Oh I wanted to like this more... I am a Mark Dacascos fan, but converting Western comic books into film can be tricky. Translating manga into a Hollywood movie can be near impossible to do well. "Crying Freeman" very earnestly tries to bring the original manga to life but doesn't live up to its potential.
As other reviewers have said, get a copy of "Drive" or "Brotherhood of the Wolf" if you are a Mark Dacascos fan.

I wanted to like this too being an admirer of the Manga series. The film fails, it has clever director Christopher Gans style. But Dacascos skills were not showcased well. The movie is an upset & has built a weird fan base that I will never understand.
Asoka (product link) Drama / Action/Adventure I thought this would be a safe "accessible" entry into Bollywood films. I can't say it did much for me. I was prepared for musical numbers and melodrama and didn’t necessarily mind that. In the end, I think I just didn’t care about the characters. Granted, I don’t have the any of the historical or cultural context for these characters and maybe that would have helped.
Alien Apocalypse (product link) TV Shows/Movies / Science Fiction Aliens travel to Earth (Oregon, specifically) to enslave our people and eat our wood. One part "Planet of the Apes", one part "Seven Samurai" (or "A-Team"), where the locals are whipped into shape to defeat the toy-looking aliens and their turncoat allies.
Two stars for Bruce. One star for humor (apparently unintentional). The Sci-Fi Channel busts out another low-budget movie. Bless them for trying. Worth buying to support Bruce Campbell. Worth renting to see guys, with actual speaking roles, wearing fake beards that look like they came from an elementary school Christmas pageant.
The Iron Fisted Monk (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Just a star-rating here, really. I'd write about what I thought, but the review from Cinema! said it all better and in more detail than I would have mustered.
Silver Hawk (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Not horrible but generally forgettable. My expectations weren't high, but it would have been cool to see Michelle Yeoh as a superhero (again...if you count "Heroic Trio").
Rush Hour 2 (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Probably not as good as the first one. Ten times better than the third one (or as you might say with an Irish accent, "de turd one").
Zhang Ziyi and Roselyn Sanchez are a welcome addition to this outing!
Chanbara Beauty: The Movie (product link) Horror / Action/Adventure Set your expectations for a movie based on a video game. Now lower them a bit. And a bit more. Okay, you're set to watch a very low-budget B-movie where hot girls kill zombies with the power of computer graphics and and logic-defusion generators. As a bonus there's a laughing, crazy-eyed mad scientist (good) and a completely unnecessary and annoying fat guy (bad).
The Great Yokai War [HK SE 2-Disc Set] (product link) Fantasy / Action/Adventure This is Miike's answer to "The Neverending Story." It's not perfect (at all) but is fun, especially if you are into Japanese mythology.
Robotrix (product link) Science Fiction / Girls With Guns Robocop meets Terminator meets Big Bouncing Boobs. You can, in fact, judge this one by its cover. It delivers everything you'd hope for (or fear) from the various cover shots.
If you like b-movies (or Double-D as the case may be), you should check out this 90's classic. There's a little too much rape for my tastes but it’s 100 times better than, say, "Holy Virgin versus the Evil Dead."
Frankenstein Conquers The World (product link) Science Fiction / Thriller This is a movie almost as good as its premise. It's Giant-Radioactive-Caveman-Frankenstein-Boy vs. Science vs. The Media vs. the Military vs. Triumph the Insult Dragon.
The Victim [1980] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is a great Sammo flick, but... The Victim's particular mix of comedy, blood, and High Drama (though common in Chinese cinema) left me a bit cold for some reason.
Blood: The Last Vampire [2000] (product link) Animation / Horror Fantastic but, as mentioned before, it's too freaking short. Short to the point that it feels unfinished.
Ong-Bak 2 (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure "Ong-Bak 2" features some really, really fantastic fights. The rest, as folks have noted, is a bit of a mess. Directly, editing (pacing, in this case), and writing are all over the map. I didn't buy "Ong-Bak" 1 or 2 for anything other than the action I'd seen in the trailers. While expectations have been high for the "prequel", go into this looking for great fights executed well; anything else you pull from the movie is just a bonus.
Fantastic setup even though the basic plot is rather silly. Amazing effects, cast, etc. If you can see this in hi-def, I highly recommend you do so.
I have been a big fan of director Danny Boyle since "Trainspotting". Cillian Murphy was fantastic in this as he was in "28 Days Later". Michelle Yeoh turned in an excellent performance of pure acting sans martial arts. The rest of cast is great too!
This film is bit of a throwback to the "thinking" sci-fi movies of the 70's. If you've heard about this movie at all, you might have heard that the second half kills it. Well, I'd say that the final third goes "off course" a bit. I won't go into the details, as you should discover them for yourselves, but it didn't "ruin" the film for me. Go into this with an open mind and you'll be able to take away some truly great movie moments.
Finally, despite the whole "let's go kick-start the sun" premise, there is some really compelling physics presented which is discussed further in the extras and commentary by scientists hired to help with the production.

The final third is a little wonky, but the movie is well worth seeing.
The Serpent And The Rainbow (product link) Horror / Thriller Based on a true story, or true events, or just inspired by event that might be true, Bill "Everyman" Pullman heads to jungles to find the black-magic zombie powder that could prove useful to his pharmaceutical company. Much hilarity ensues. And by "hilarity" I mean terror, torture, and hallucination.
Rob-B-Hood (product link) Action/Adventure / Comedy I had no expectations when I found a copy of the HK extended version while on vacation in Canada. Having a blinged-out baby on the cover didn't bode well though.
So, when I watch it, I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it and have watched it again with family and friends. Like many Jackie Chan films, this is a good one to introduce non-fu-watching folks to.
Taxi [1998] (product link) Action/Adventure / Comedy Fast and, if not furious, funny. Probably funnier if you understand French, but subtitles are fine [by me].
The two male leads are fine and the ladies steal every scene they are in, especially Marion Cotillard who later won an Oscar for her fantastic performance as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose."

Love this movie... could have done without the sequels though!
The Green Hornet (product link) TV Shows/Movies / Martial Arts Nice to see these on DVD. The quality isn't perfect but much better than my first exposure on VHS. Editing together three episodes to focus on Bruce is great, but there were many "what the..." moments where continuity, plot, and logic apparently ended up on the editing room floor.
Rush Hour (product link) Action/Adventure / Comedy "Rush Hour" offered a different twist on the buddy-cop formula. It’s also fast and often funny. Tucker can be a bit much at times and Brett Ratner is still a hack, but overall this is a fun flick.

I thought it was fun too. But I don't really get all the Brett Ratner hating everywhere. I'm not his biggest fan, but he seems acceptable to me... His "Red Dragon" was good too IMO.
New Police Story (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts This is the brooding older-man's version of "Police Story". New blood is added via young model-actors and overall the acting is good but the writing is mostly melodrama. This isn't the best "Police Story" in my opinion. I would have been happier with it if the entire "video game" plot-device had been replaced with something less insulting.

The video games, gamers x box should have used a real plot. Many different scenarios would have worked as well if not much better.
Project S (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is in no way "Supercop 2" or "Police Story 3.5" or whatever else the distributors want you to think. Luckily, it is a good Michelle Yeoh vehicle though.
Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Very good. It delivers everything from the trailer and more. The action is great. The acting is good. The story is better than the "who stole my elephant!?" shenanigans.
I Love Maria (product link) Science Fiction / Action/Adventure This isn't a thinking-man's "Robocop", or "Iron (Wo)Man" for that matter, but it's a blast.
HK's Overview covers the movie description well. I'll just add that there were some very funny moments and great action in others. The rest was enjoyable to me, but if you happen not to like special effects silliness, you might want to rent it first.
Nice film. Wonderfully written and acted. Actors (and film’s producers) Edward Norton and Naomi Watts are always great, in my opinion. Liev Schreiber does another great job with a smaller roll. Anthony Wong, as a Nationalist Colonel, does a solid job as always (in very good English, no less). The scenery nearly steals the show though in this beautifully filmed almost-epic.
If you liked the trailer, congratulations! You’ve essentially seen the film. What isn't already revealed in the trailer is very predictable. Nice, but predictable.
I thought that the handling of the Western influence in Asia and the Chinese reaction to it was well done. All in all though, I am weary of movies where the civilized White people show up and save the uncivilized Non-White people. This happens in far too many films, a low-point for this plot-device occurs in the Kevin Bacon's "The Air Up There" where he travels to Africa to teach tall, black men to play basketball. Why? Well, to eventually save them from an evil mining corporation or some such nonsense. After saving the villagers, I’m sure Kevin’s character walked away with a broader worldview and a better sense of how awesome it is to be white.
I had low expectations for "Fatal Contact" (also know by the equally bland title, “Underground Fist”). I was very pleasantly surprised though. Yu Jing’s been in the business for 10 years or so but this really feels like is first starring role as an adult and I think he pulled it off well. The fights were great, of course. I thought that the wire-work was judiciously used to good effect. The camera work was great in and out of the fights (in fact, I could go on about just the camera and editing work). The humor worked for me too. I know that it didn’t for everyone, but oh well. Pop star Ronald Cheung’s character, Captian, seemed like a role written for Steven Chow, whose style I happen to like.
So, starting with humor, I understand why this film rubbed some folks the wrong way. The funniest bits for me were the self-referential jokes (like Jacky Wu Jing’s Jet Li and Wong Fei Hung references were great). I’m sure there are those viewers, however, who thought that that humor was distracting. I’m sure it didn’t help those who thought that the tone was a little confused. I’m sure there are those who didn’t like the “young love” story. Yes, the entire plot is lifted from other sources ("Danny the Dog", "Ong-Bak", a bit of "MacBeth", etc.). Yes, there are many clichés (like the fact that he’ll be asked to throw a fight). I’m not ruining anything, like other reviewers, because that plot point is predictable. And finally, yes, there are a couple of slower scenes that should have been removed.
Speaking of the story, generally regarded here are fairly thin, I thought that the meditation on the corruption of prostitution was really interesting. In the movie, every fighter is paid by the mob because of what they can do with their body. Wu Jing’s girl in the film, played by cutesy teen, Miki Yeung, becomes his pimp early in the film while another friend becomes an “actual” prostitute. All this plays into the broader theme (outside of ass-kicking) of money and the sacrifices and gambles people will make for it. This is really the central motivator played out the poor, rich, good guys, and villains in the film. In fact, I thought there was some interesting attention paid to this theme among the distinct strata of Triads.
I have a final thought on the theme of “underground” fighting in movies: I have always viewed this concept as a necessary evil (at best) in order to facilitate more ass-kicking. From "Enter the Dragon", "Bloodsport", "Danny the Dog" ("Unleashed"), "Ong-Bak", "Balls of Fury", etc., there is this idea that the Best Fighters in the World can be gathered for a fight to the death. Yeah, right. Why would a man train for 20 years so he can step in to the ring to fight to the Death? For money? Um, professional non-lethal fighters can win money without becoming professional murderers. If wealthy mobsters and socialites wanted to pay to see folks fight to the death, they’d be watching untrained (probably chronically mentally ill) homeless people. Fatal Bum Contact would make a bad film though. Hopefully writers will keep thinking of better reasons for the good guy to bust out the Fu without resorting to this lame plot device.

Well stated review with a lot of interesting insights. You are right about this films unique meditations on prostitution but to be fair every job in existance is some variation of prostitution. Now I feel cheap.
Blind Fury (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Dutch actor, and total bad-ass, Rutger Hauer performs in this loose interpretation of the Zatoichi legend. I was 12 when I saw this and while it isn't quite as cool as it seemed back then, I am still giving 4 stars for old time's sake (or young time's sake as the case may be).
Who does not love this awesome movie! Rutger Hauer as a blind swordsman is priceless. I saw this film was I was kid too- brings a lot of great memories.
