Lady With A Sword (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great movie. It has everything you want from a Shaw swordplayer: a beautiful heroine (Lily Ho) who's majestic in this movie, great villains, a good storyline, great action, bloodshed, great choreography, old school revenge stuff, and honor, great sets and costumes... I just can't find anything negative to say about it. A true gem to be discovered. Highly recommended.
I totally agree with this reviewer. Directed by a woman and starring a woman this revenge flick is filled with very evil men who get whats coming to them but not without a very steep price to the ladies involved. I say well worth buying from HK Flix.
Legend Of The Fox (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great Venoms movie. The sword action is fantastic. Lu Feng plays a good guy here and Chiang Sheng is the bad guy! Typical old school revenge story. Plenty of action. Not too much wirework. If you are a Venoms fan and have not seen this movie yet, rush and buy it!

Excellent film. And it was great to see a reversal of the usual roles with Lu Feng being the good guy; it's nice being to root for him for once.
The Secret Rivals (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is a great martial arts movie. Should be on anyone's top ten list. Beautiful display of kicks by John Liu and Hwang Jang Lee. Wong Tao is also excellent and his role--reminded me a bit of Bruce Lee in "Enter The Dragon". Actually, he has the same haircut and acts the same way without really trying to imitate. Wonderful, well-choreographed fights even though that movie did not have Shaw Brothers' budget! A true delight! If you haven't seen this movie yet, what are you waiting for?????????? The sequel is almost as good!

This movie is definitely top shelf. My only issue is that in a lot of these old schoolers the northern Chinese kicking expert is usually played by Korean stylists. But ,oh well, Hwang Jang Lee is the man.
Fist Of Fury [1972] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure The first martial arts movie I ever saw back in the early 1970's. In my humble view, Bruce Lee's best! Great old school classic of Japanese vs. Chinese. Bruce Lee is simply superb in this movie also known as THE CHINESE CONNECTION. Very entertaining. The fights are fantastic. Lee's charisma and intensity are just incredible. The scene in the Japanese dojo where Bruce Lee brings back the "gift sign" saying "Sick Men Of Asia" is one of the best ever and was never duplicated in my humble view. Probably Lo Wei's best directed movie ever. If I would own only one (I own over 600!) martial arts movie, this would be the one. A genuine true classic!
Shaolin Challenges Ninja (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is Gordon Liu's best movie ever. Classic old school Japanese -vs.- Chinese but done more in respect than hate. Some comedy, specially the scenes with Gordon Liu's wife who's a Japanese girl who always try to prove that Japanese martial arts are superior to Chinese's. Many great fights. Overall a very entertaining movie. In my humble view, Shaolin Challenges Ninja is one of the best 10 martial arts movie ever.

This is indeed Gordon Liu's greatest film, and perhaps the greatest old-school movie ever.
Shaolin Challenges Ninja (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure In my view, Gordon Liu's best movie ever. Classic old school story line of Japanese vs. Chinese but done within remarkable class and mutual respect. The fights are very well choreographed and Gordon Liu's shows an excellent arsenal of weapons. The comedy between Liu and his Japanese wife is hilarious (even though she sometimes got on my nerves!). Very entertaining! You cannot go wrong here! Just sit, watch and enjoy!

The Lady Assassin (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Wonderful cast very well directed. Fantastic swordsplay action, very well chorographed, and a great storyline to keep you entertained. A true Classic Shaw movie at their best. Definitely a must-see.

Roger I have to say you are acurate all the way but, I gave it 5 stars.
Disciples Of The 36th Chamber (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Wonderful performance by Hsiao Hou. You gotta see him here. Beautiful choreography by Liu Chia-Liang. Exceptional fights. A good mix of comedy and martial arts. The last 20 minutes are fantastic. Gordon Liu reprises his role of the 36th Chamber of Shaolin. He has a supporting role here but gives a brilliant performance. I only wish they would have add an extra 10 minutes of action! If you love martial arts movies, you must add this one to your collection. A true classic.
The Twelve Gold Medallions (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Very entertaining Shaw classic. Great performance by Yueh Hua. Plenty of good action and bloodshed. The two old masters are really fun to watch and fight each other at the end. The only downer is that some wirework is just over the board. But being a Shaw movie, not totally unusual. Great sets and sceneries. Some fight scenes could have been filmed less close. Great old school movie!

i'm with you on that one this is very entertaining a must own film.
Heads For Sale (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great performance by Chiao Chiao (much less known than Cheng Pei Pei or Shih Szu). Good old storyline involving corrupted officials and framing an innocent hero. Above average action, mostly swordsplay. Very good cast. Good choreography. Great sets and costumes. Nice Shaw classic revived thanks to Celestial! No hesitation to recommend it.
Fighting Ace (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure John Liu at his best. Known for his flashy kicks, Liu's hand techniques are very good here. Actually, Liu is almost in the same category of Hwang Jang Lee for his kicks: his kicks are more flexible but less powerful than HJL. Old school classic and plenty of good hand to hand action. This is absolutely a must see for all martial arts movie fans. I'd love to see this film remastered.
Okay, tThere is some great stuff here but also some stupidities. My rating is based on the quality of the martial arts and fights. Overall, the movie is a 3½ stars at best, because of too much idiocy. The first 30 minutes, except for a small opening practice scene with Wang Yu and a 30 second fight with Hwang Jang Lee, is a total waste, including ten minutes wasted on a fight between Wang Yu dressed as a chicken and a few others as a centipede (kind of similar to lion dance costumes)--also a 10 minutes zombie scene, totally out of place. But then the good stuff begins. And the good stuff is really great. Hwang Jang Lee is just superb in this one. All his arsenal of kicks and jump kicks are displayed. The martial arts techniques showed are extremely accurate and real. The uncle (I can't remember his name) shows great Monkey style and wu shu techniques. The final fight with HJL and Wang Yu is just fantastic. The fights, even though sometime a little bit speed up, are very well choreographed. A true must-see. I will definitely watch it a few times (I'll just skip the chicken and zombie scenes!). Just get it.
Fist From Shaolin (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Unknown cast but fantastic Chinese style martial arts without wires. A must-see movie if you love pure martial arts. The figthters are great and have nothing to envy Jet Li. Just sit, watch and enjoy.
The Buddha Assassinator (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great performance by Hwang Jang Lee (one of my favourites). As usual he loses at the end because he's the bad guy, but he shouldn't have! Good action and HJL shows us again why he should be considered the best kicker of all time in martial arts movies! Highly recommended! Get a popcorn, sit and enjoy!
Pursuit (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great Shaw classic. Great performance by Yueh Hua. Maybe a little too melodramatic sometimes but great fight scenes. True old school stuff. I really enjoyed it.
Grand Master Of Death (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Excellent performance by Alex Fu Sheng. Sometimes he even reminded me of Bruce Lee in "Chinese Connection" in certain fight scenes. I am not Alex Fu Sheng's biggest fan (although he did star in a few great movies, but played in more mediocre ones), but this is one of my favourites from him. Very rare role of a good guy by Shan Mao. Wang Lung Wei is great as usual as the villain. Leung Kar Yan plays Wei's top man but is not at his best here. Classic old school revenge storyline. The fights are well choreographed and the fighters are not flying! Good acting. A must see in my book.
Mad Monkey Kung Fu (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great movie! What a display of this complicated Monkey style! Fantastic performance by Liu Chia Liang and Hsiao Hou! Lo Lieh plays a great villain as usual. Kung fu with some comedy. If you're looking for a top movie featuring the Monkey style, that's the one to get! Another one also would be "Iron Monkey" (with Chen Kuan Tai)--probably the top two movies featuring this unusual style, "Iron Monkey" being more old school. You'll love to look at the beautiful Kara Hui Ying-Hung (who also starred with Liu Chia Liang in "My Young Auntie"). Get it!

could not have said it any better myself; excellent movie and so was Iron Monkey starring Chen Kuan Tai!
The One Armed Boxer (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is a true old school classic. It was one of the first martial arts movies I saw as a kid back in the '70s and it will always remain one of my favorites! Plenty of fights. Jimmy Wang Yu at his best! Very entertaining movie! Not that the martial arts styles in the movie are that great (like the Taekwon-Do guy played by Shan Mao--and believe me he was nothing of a Taekwon-Do stylist!--or the Lama's priest who inflates his body--fun but ridiculous--or the Yoga guy, etc.), but JWY carries the movie with his charisma, fighting this army of bad guys with different styles! You cannot go wrong with this movie. This is a true classic.
The Shadow Whip (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Very entertaining movie featuring the beautiful and talented Cheng Pei Pei who uses the whip as her weapon. Tien Feng (the Whip Master) gives an excellent performance. Great old school classic with a good storyline. Plenty of fights. Highly recommended.
The Secret Rivals 2 (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Another great movie featuring the dynamic duo of John Liu and Hwang Jang Lee, both Taekwon-do masters! Having practiced Taekwon-do for 12 years, I can tell that these two great martial artist really mastered their art--Hwang Jang Lee being, in my view, the powerful kicker and John Liu the more flashy and flexible kicker (did you known that John Liu was the student of Tan Tao-Liang? They kick the same way!). Plenty of action with a full arsenal of kicks. Unfortunately, Wong Tao was not part of this movie, although the movie starts exactly where the first one ended. It does look like it was filmed back to back! Wong Tao was replaced by Tino Wong, who gives a very good performance, but I preferred Wong Tao in the first movie. For a great evening of old school martial arts movies, watch this one together with Secret Rivals 1 and get the popcorn! You'll be in for a royal treat!
A true classic by Jimmy Wang Yu. He had already left Shaw Brothers by that time. Probably one his last great movies before he started to play in second class movies. Great Chinese vs. Japanese storyline. Jimmy Wang Yu was a master in these kind of movies (Chinese vs. Japanese). Although I find Jimmy Wang Yu was not a great technician (martial arts wise), his screen charisma was almost second to none! That's why I always enjoyed him (even in the mediocre movies which somehow tarnished the end of his career). He was always better with weapons (sword and spear). For example: "One-Armed Swordsman", "Return Of The One-Armed Swordsman" and "The Assassin" are true classics that must be seen! In this one he plays a swordsman reuniting top fighters to fight Japanese invaders. A true old-school classic and one of my favorite starring Jimmy Wang Yu. Plenty of action. Maybe not as flashy as some 1960-70's Shaw Brothers classics, and certainly not the same quality sets of the Shaws, but very entertaining. Highly recommended.

Could not have said it better myself! His fighting style was not as polished as some, but he fought with Gusto!
Brothers Five (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure What a great cast! Cheng Pei-Pei, Yueh Hua, Chang Yi, Lo Lieh, Tien Feng and many more! A true classic of brotherhood and honor! Plenty of great action (mostly weapons). Great storyline. Beautiful sets. The only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is that I did not like the "special technique" at the end of the movie. As mentioned, great cast and well-directed. Great choreography. Look for Sammo Hung in a secondary role. A true must-have. I would have given it a 4.75* if possible. Highly recommended. A true gem!

100% agree with your review, especially the part about the special technique at the end. The cast is superb and so is the story. This is a great old school flick.
The Lady Hermit (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great movie! Outstanding performances by two kung fu divas: Cheng Pei-Pei and Shih Szu. Both very pleasant to look at and very skilled! Plenty of action. Great classic. Good storyline. Good performance also by Lo Lieh. Beautiful sets as usual for Shaw movies. Look for Cliff Lok in a secondary role. A must-see in my humble view. If you don't like this movie, you're simply not a fan of the genre!
Lady Of The Law (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure What a great performance by Shih Szu (aka Si Si)! Although less known nowadays than Cheng Pei-Pei (who many people discovered through "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000), Shih Szu was a great martial arts diva! In my humble view, she was as beautiful and as talented as Cheng Pei-Pei. Very exciting movie for fans of the genre. Great sets. Good storyline. Many fights with multiple opponents. Lo Lieh, as a good guy, gives also a great performance, although I find he was too humble in this movie (What? Lo Lieh humble???? HAHAHA!). Great old school classic! Mostly a sword movie. Highly recommended. Once you see this movie, you’ll surely want to see all of Shih Szu movies! She’s great to watch (on screen and in action!). This movie belongs in your collection! Go ahead, buy it!
The Oath Of Death (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Excellent movie. Tien Feng (bad guy) uses the whip like he does in the "Shadow Whip" and has a special technique where his whip becomes something like a spear (unrealistic but fun!). Great old-school classic. Good storyline. Lo Lieh, who plays one of his rare role as a good guy, is excellent in this movie. Probably one of his best roles! Great fights, mostly swords and weapons. Bloodshed all over! Very entertaining. And the bad girl (Ling Ling), what a beauty to look at! HAHAHAHA! Usual wiring stuff for Shaw movies of that era (jumping over roofs, etc.). Beautiful sets. Highly recommended. Don't rent it, buy it!
Dragon Swamp (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Very entertaining martial arts movie. A must for all Cheng Pei-Pei fans. Actually, we get a double-take of CPP as she plays the roles of mother and daughter. The action is very good. Mostly a swords movie. Plenty of action. Some wiring work but nothing unusual for a Shaw movie of this time. Maybe not as great as COME DRINK WITH ME, but very entertaining. The sets are beautiful! Great performances by CPP, Yueh Hua and Lo Lieh as the villain. Don't hesitate to buy or at least rent this movie. Then sit down, have a popcorn and enjoy the movie.
The Leg Fighters (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Tan Tao Liang does his usual kicks and is very good as usual. His left leg his quite amazing (the only other lefty that I saw as good or better than him his Bill Wallace, ex-professional PKA middleweight world champion). I loved Hsia Kwan Lee (the girl student). Great legs and man she knows how to used them! Most of he fights are very good although I am usually not crazy about what I call "duo fighters" (2 guys who fight as a team). Again, just enough humor to my taste. Fun movie to watch. The ending could have been better (either it ends that way or maybe a minute or two are missing). Overall it is a very good movie. Another in-between movie. Not really a 4½* but more than a 4*, like a 4.3.
Secret Of Tai Chi (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is a very entertaining movie martial arts wise. AKA Tai Chi Chun. This is true kung fu without wires! Unknown cast to me but believe me they have nothing to envy Jet Li! Many fights. Beautiful choreography with and without weapons. I have seen over 500 martial arts movies and I did not know this one. So I did not expect much from this inexpensive movie, but hell was I surprised! Definitely in my top 20 martial arts movie list. The main guys moved as well as Jet Li and barely used any wire stuff which is much abused in Jet Li's movies. Actually the entire cast was great to watch. Do not hesitate to watch this movie if you love martial arts movies. You won't regret it! Highly recommended. It will be the best few bucks you'll have ever spent!
Kill The Shogun [1975] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Usually I don’t like Kung Fu movies with rifles. This one is an exception. Hwang Jang Lee plays a very little part in here although the movies is advertised as a HJL movie (false advertising!). Nevertheless, the hero (I don’t know him) is excellent and show's great Taekwon-Do techniques. Very nice kicks and jumping kicks without much wire/trampoline help. Good hand techniques also. I wonder if he starred in other movies (I would love to know!). He looks Korean. His partner also is a very good kicker. The story line about the Japanese general who lost his badge or medal is plain stupid, but it's easy to let go of it. Excellent fights and great action. A bit of comedy (just enough, I don’t like too much!). Very entertaining!
Invincible Shaolin (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure One of the best Venoms movies! Great action. Beautiful fight choreography. Chang Cheh was at his best directing this movie! A pure delight for all martial arts movie fans. Interesting North vs South plot. What a great performance by Chiang Sheng with the butterfly poles! Very entertaining. And Wang Lung Wei is the best villain of all!
The Heroes [Tai Seng] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Very enjoyable movie to watch. Good fight choreography. Ti Lung is excellent in his role of playing a traitor while in reality he is training the Shaolin prisoners to rebel against the Chings. Shows nice Wing Chun.
Personally, I find that Ti Lung was so much better than his movie partner David Chiang (who does not appear in this movie). Tan Tao Liang is very good in his few appearances doing his usual kicks, although I have seen better performance from him ("The Hot, The Cool and The Vicious", "Showdown At The Cotton Mill", "Flash Legs"). Chan Wei Man plays a good villain.
Along Comes The Tiger (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Great movie. Wong Tao at his best. Great performance by Tung Wei. Tommy Lee is always good as a villain.
Snake In The Monkey's Shadow (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Classic train/revenge/kill story. Overall an entertaining martial arts movie with a good cast (no prominent star except maybe Wilson Tong). Prominent styles are Monkey and Snake and well performed. Good choreography. Plenty of action. Low budget movie but definitely worth watching.

I agree that monkey and snake style are performed very well, but don't forget the drunken style which is displayed quite nicely by Cheung and Hau Chiu Sing! There's something about when Wilson Tong shows up in a movie that makes that movie seem better.
Lady Of Steel (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Cheng Pei Pei and Yueh Hua always worked well together. Old school daughter seeking revenge for her parents' murder. Good action. Entertaining. Get it. You can never go wrong with a movie featuring the duo of Cheng Pei Pei and Yueh Hua.
The Golden Sword (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I love Sheng Pei Pei with a sword and she does good here. Good performance also by Kao Yuen who reminded me of Yueh Hua here. Ku Feng is always great.
The Magnificent Swordsman (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Not a spectacular movie, but well made. Wong Chung Shun is the Magnificent Swordsman. It is very difficult to see him as the hero (one of his very rare role as a good guy). He just does not have the looks for it! But he delivers a very credible performance here. All about honour and respect. His style with the sword is not spectacular but efficient: 1 or 2 moves and the bad guy is dead. More of what you see in Japanese movies. It just takes awhile to get used to seeing him as the good guy! Very simple storyline. Shu Pei Pei does not fight here and her role is quite annoying as the poor girl victim. Tien Feng shows up at the end as a bad hired killer and uses the whip (like in Shadow Whip). I did not expect much from this movie and I was very pleased at the end. Entertaining.
The Eunuch (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Yeung Chi Hing, usually a great villain, plays an old master hero here and does it well with a touch of humour. Pay Ying is the bad Eunuch and is good at it! The hero (Chung Wa) and the heroine (Lisa Chiao Chiao) give a good performance. The only annoying thing is that they become "experts" within a few weeks or months of training--not too credible. Ouyang Shafei plays the wife of the old master and the pair is funny together as they each have their own student. Look for a young Sammo Hung in a short fight scene. Great sets and costumes. Worth watching.
Shaolin Death Kicks (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Could also be a 3½*. Ku Feng plays Huang Fei-Hung. Unusual for Ku Feng to play the good guy. He is better as a villain. However he did bring a new approach to Huang Fei-Hung's character in this movie and shows good charisma on the screen. More down to earth and much less wire work than Jet Li. The story drags here and there but there is sufficient fights. Huang Fei-Hung special technique is the "invisible kick". Well, Ku Feng is a good actor, but not a kicker! So his special kick is far from being credible (a simple front kick). Good hand techniques. The European chief simply looks and acts stupid. Wang Hsieh is the bad guy and I like more in epic movies. Maybe a 3.75* would be best. Worth watching to see a different portrayal of Huang Fei-Hung.
Twelve Deadly Coins (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Classic Shaw movie. Fun and entertaining action. Good performance by Lo Lieh. Typical "escort service" storyline. I recommend it.
Killer Darts (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Good old school classic. A bit slow to start but then the pace picks up. Yueh Hua great as usual. Plenty of action and bloodshed with a storyline. Good choreography. Typical old school revenge stuff. Entertaining to watch. Don't hesitate to get it.
