Lorelei: The Witch Of The Pacific Ocean (product link) Action/Adventure / War "Lorelei", a movie about a high tech sub the Germans gave to the Japanese with an advanced sonar system that is passive as well as offensive - it detects other ships as well makes the sub "invisible".
The mission: August 1945, to intercept the third atomic attack against Japan.
The crew: The Captain and men of the sub are ill disciplined subversives whose lives were spared for this final mission - a mission from which no one is expected to return.
When I read the movie's overview, I knew this was a must have DVD.
Having seen the movie, it surpassed my expectations!
Sons Of Good Earth (product link) Action/Adventure / War A drama about China in WW 2 It has some nice low key humor, drama and action. A well made classic film. After seeing this movie, I am going to see "The Good Earth" which might have influenced and could be a prequel to "Sons of Good Earth".
On The Mountain Of Tai Hang (product link) Drama / War An excellent movie about China in WW 2. The action scenes are as good as any modern war movie. For me, the only drawback is the obvious Communist propaganda: as this is a film made in China, however, this should come as no surprise.
Wild Gals Of The Naked West / Blacksnake [DOUBLE FEATURE] (product link) Comedy / Erotica While not Russ Meyer's best films, I would say "Wild Gals" is his best comedy and Blacksnake is his best drama - and the mild nudity and sexuality are nice.
El Topo (product link) Drama / Action/Adventure If you are into a psychedelic western where the main character is seeking not only to be the fastest gun but spiritual enlightenment as well, then this movie is for you.
Amazing Stories (product link) Drama / Action/Adventure Amazing stories offers three stories. I liked the Chinese "vampire" (second) story and the final (an Agatha Christie style) story.
7-Man Army (product link) Martial Arts / War The dialogue is extremely hokey, but if you are a champion of lost causes - I mean Chinese soldiers outnumbered 7 to 3,000 by the Japanese - then, this movie is for you!
I give it between 0 to 1 star for dialogue but 4 to 5 stars for the story and action.
Hero Of Shanghai (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Terrible movie in every detail. [On the version I watched], the reels or parts were out of order, some reels could be missing. This also explains why the dialogue is confusing and sometimes makes no sense. The movie is supposed to be in the 1920s, but there are two scenes where a 1970s or 1980s model car is prominently seen. Avoid this movie.
Fantasy Mission Force (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Unless you are looking for a kung-fu comedy that spoofs medieval knights, barbarians, amazons, hot rod road movies, war films, Nazis, horror films, westerns, spy films - everything but space movies - avoid this one.
