Bio: Love the kung fu movies. Donnie Yen,Jackie Chan,Sammo Hung,Jet Li,Brandon Lee,Ti Lung,Gordon Liu. My top movies include Story of Ricky, Magnificent Butcher, Flash Point, Invisible Target, Police Story, Bio Zombie, Drunken Master, Dragons Forever, Rapid Fire, etc.
A very solid erotic/thriller with a good engaging story. The acting for one, was very impressive. Tony Leung proves time and again that he's the Pacino of Hong Kong film. This was a role unlike anything I've seen him do, and he pulled it off well.
Another surprise for me was the guy from Avenging Fist. Not sure on his name but I believe it's Lee Ho Wong or something. That is the only other movie I've seen him in, so his acting in this really impressed me.
I only have one complaint about this movie. Now I enjoy T and A as much as the next person, but it really just seemed unnecessary in this flick. I mean, think about it, did hard core sex scenes really add anything to this movie?
But overall, it was very well done. The story was put together well, the performances were award worthy, the sets and costumes looked great, and Ang Lee's direction was great as always. If you're not offended by graphic sex scenes, which I'm not, you might want to give this one a view. A well made film that deserved more recognition than it got.

This is the only film I've ever seen in which the sex scenes are essential. They reveal the characters more fully than any prior film.
The Story of Ricky is one of the coolest movies of all time. It has been hailed as one of the goriest movies of all time. I must say that I really don't think of it as one of the goriest movies ever, but it truly is an awesome viewing experience.
There are many flaws in this movie. The story of Ricky turns out to be not much of a story at all, just an excuse to splatter some poor bastards. The sets are very cheap and generic, the splatter effects are very amateur, and the acting is horrendous.
But this movie makes up for all of this with it's pure fun. The way Ricky disembowels and destroys each of his enemies is a treat to watch. What the film makers lacked in effects they made up for with the sheer creativity of the violence. There are several ways people are disposed of that you've never seen before.
This is one of those strange movies where you can't really explain why you like it so much, you just do. You are just sort of drawn to it. While it was made in 1992, it somehow has that old school charm that movies like Drunken Master and Shaw Bros. give you. You just like it for some reason.
This film has become a cult classic, and rightfully so. The low budget splatter effects, laughable acting and funny situations will win you over. I call this movie a cross between the gore of Bad Taste with a Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris movie. If you are a fan of ultra violent gorehound movies and you don't really need Oscar worthy acting and great sets, then definitely check this one out.
This is simply a movie to sit down and enjoy the blood and guts and dismemberment. It's not Titanic...it's a movie where in the first few minutes a gut gets a two by four nailed to his face, complete with rubbery fake looking effects. That's what you like about this movie if you like it, however. All gorehounds, this one should be on your must have list of ultra violent movies. Well worth a look if you like these kind of flicks, which I myself do. Other similar recommendations: Bio Zombie, Bad Taste, Ichii the Killer( probably the sickest movie ever), Brain Dead, Street Fighter series, Fist of Fury.

I do think of it as one of the goriest movies of all time - not that there's anything wrong with that. The wooden acting and laughable special effects make it not disturbing for one instant - but also make this no more than a ***1/2 film.
Ballistic Kiss was Donnie Yen's personal take on what we call the heroic bloodshed genre. I must say that all in all I was pretty impressed with his effort.
Donnie plays Cat, a secluded assassin who lives a lonely lifestyle. Annie Wu from Jackie Chan's First Strike plays Carrie, a cop who for some reason falls in love with Cat after he kidnaps her.
I will first start out getting the negative things about this movie out of the way. The main thing is the simple logic things. For one, the bullets. There is scarcely any reloading in this movie. I counted about forty bullets being shot from Cat's handgun in the theater shootout before he ever reloaded. That is a stupid thing to knock a movie for, however, and it doesn't detract form the overall film.
Another thing is the bullet wounds. Throughout the course of the movie, Cat and Carrie both get shot about ten times and they don't seem to be too bothered by it. Is it just me or would a gunshot wound to the side of the arm pretty much leave your arm useless? And also the aiming of the bad guys. It is pretty ridiculous how bad they aim. They never can shoot Cat can they? Except for those ten times, of course.
Then you have the main thing that keeps this movie from getting a good four and a half star rating from yours truly. Annie Wu and Donnie Yen's chemistry. Unfortunately there is none to speak. They just conveniently fall for each other when the script calls for it and it isn't very believable. After he threatens to break all of her limbs and mess up her face, I find it hard to believe that she could just fall for him. And is it just me, or does she totally screw him over in the end? She gathers up this army of a police force and goes after him, and then she cries like a baby when (spoiler here) they blow the hell out of him.
Enough of that. All of that negative stuff aside, and I can reveal why ultimately I love this movie. The most obvious reason is the amount of bullets emptied and the quantity of gun fights. Any fan of John Woo bullet fests will be satisfied with what's inside Ballistic Kiss. While it has some slow spots to so called "develop" Cat and Carrie's relationship, there's plenty of shoot em up in here to satisfy action fans.
I also must say that I loved the score to this movie as well as the style of shooting. Donnie Yen has successfully created a very dark and gritty atmosphere that works well with this story. The dreary music and gritty dark colors truly set the mood.
Overall I would definitely recommend this movie. It's got plenty of action and a stylish look and feel to make up for the unrealistic situations and unbelievable love story. Check this one out if you're a fan of movies such as Romancing Bullet, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow, or any Donnie Yen or bullet ballet flick.

I thought this was just a mess: bad plot, too little kung fu, and the kind of gun action made by people who know nothing about guns.
Here is a movie that got a lot of hype. If you were to judge a movie by it's promises, this would be the best movie around. It promises solid action, a hot young cast, great special effects, and the great Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao together again. Oh yeah, and screen legend Ekin Cheng is plopped on the cover [of some DVD releases].
But let's move past that and discuss what this movie actually does and does not deliver. First the dissapointments. Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao don't even fight each other, and Yuen Biao is pretty much cardboard as a villian with a goofy mask over his face the whole time. Second, the martial arts fights in this movie are completely jacked up by goofy effects and CGI. There is not one good kick ass hand to hand fight in this movie, which, I might add, is called The Avenging Fist. For the most part, the plot clods along with most actors putting in so-so or bad performances. The best performances in this film definitely belong to Sammo Hung, Aunt Wing, and surprisingly, Stephen Fung. As far as plot and action goes, this is no better than the Street Fighter movie crossed with a live action Dragonball Z.
But there are some good stuff. As mentioned before, Sammo Hung does a good job, and Stephen Fung is OK. Also, while the martial arts is bogged down by CGI, the action is not bad. The futuristic city that this film takes place in is cool looking. Also, the love story between Fung and Nova's sister is half believable.
When you boil it down you have to consider this...do you like popcorn movies such as Star Wars or are you a fan of Anime? Are you a teen girl who loves Stephen Fung? Watch it.
This movie, basically, is a couple hours of ok action and eye candy. Not much more. I thought it was in the middle, not crappy but not great. I would give it a shot if I was into popcorny flicks or action. Not too bad.

I found no eye candy or good stuff. This is about as bad as Sammo Hung gets.
Ichi the Killer.I found this movie to be not too bad, but not near what I thought it would be. I had heard much about this movie, saying that it was loaded with offensive and realistic gore.
I rented it UNCUT and it really did not offend me any. The gore in this film for the most part is cheesy CGI effects that don't make you squirm at all. The worst parts of this movie are the graphic rape scenes, which unfortunately loof all too real.
This movie has gotten lots of appraise, but I truthfully found it to be slow paced and boring at times.Given, though, this may be because I had such high hopes for it. I will say that I loved a few of the characters, particularly Kanahara, and all of the actors turn in pretty good performances.
The most disturbing scenes in this film for me were the scenes of him cutting his tongue off and od course the severe rape scenes. Other than that, this film really can't boast any truly offensive stuff.I found the paper cutting stuff in the Jackass movie to be worse than anything in this. That's a lot harder to watch. The guts in this movie are pretty cool, but they just don't really look real. If you are looking for gore this way, check out The Story of Ricky, because it atleast doesn't try to take its violence seriously.I would definitely recommend Ichi for those looking for extreme cinema. It definitely is one of the most disturbing movies I've seen. The rape and sexual violence does it for me.
Don't believe what you hear about this movie though. It is pretty slow and there are some down right stupid moments(such as when Jirii takes off his shirt to reveal his totally ridiculous CGI muscular body), but whether the gore looks fake or not it still makes for a fun and funny movie. If rape scenes turn you off, though, skip this one.Other movies I would recommend would be anything by Takashi Miike, Story of Ricky,Guinea Pig films, or Brother by Takeshi Kitano. This movie is about in the middle, pretty good but not great.

The gore didn't offend me either, but I found this a much more thrilling picture than you. This is somewhere between **** and ****1/2.
The gore did not offend me. It just made me shake my head and wonder why anyone thought it made this boring, mundane piece of trash some sort of masterpiece.
Hard Boiled (product link) Action/Adventure / Bullet Ballet Probably my all-time favorite all-out gun-action movie. Although I haven't seen "The Killer" in about ten years. It's next on my list so I can really compare. But as of right now, gun fu for me gets no better than this. It really does have everything you want: shootouts, explosions, and even a brutal fist fight. Plus the story is pretty good. Just on a dramatic movie level, I could put this along the same lines as "The Departed".
The last shootout in the hospital may be the best ever. That long continuous shot through the hallway is the stuff of legend. This movie is John Woo at his best. This movie also made me a fan of Chow Yun-Fat. If you haven't seen this adrenaline-fueled bullet fest, I suggest going and getting a copy now. Really a must-have for movie fans in general. It really is a landmark in film history. To say that it's overrated is a joke.

I'm with you all the way. This movie is the greatest action movie ever..
This is probably one of the most outstanding old school kung fu movies I have ever seen. Everything about this film is completely top notch. Up until I watched this film my favorite old school martial arts movie was Drunken Master (the original), but now I think I like this one better.
The story is more or less a revenge story, but it is so much more than all of the others. It is absolutely hilarious in it's comedy. and the fighting is top notch.
The movie is overall pretty good in all departments, but what is really gold in this film is the fights. Sammo Hung has made flawless fighting that actually beats any fighting I've seen in any other old school film, and I've seen a few such as Drunken Master, Shaolin vs. Wutang, Invincible Armour, and plenty of others. The fight between Yuen Biao and the guy with the fan is breathtaking! When Yuen Biao fakes him out with his shirt and then quickly kicks him is awesome, and I found myself rewinding that one more than once.
This is the only film I've seen starring Sammo Hung, but now I'm eager to check some of his stuff out. I would recommend this to any old school fan, especially if you like kung fu comedies from the Opera Bros. I found only one flaw in this film, and that's the rape scene that feels out of place. other than that, this is the best kung fu movie I have ever seen. Awesome. So awesome.
Fatal Move (product link) Crime / Martial Arts It was pretty bad. Regardless of all the negative reviews, I had high hopes for this flick. The story was all over the place, characters came and went without you having the slightest idea who they were. The fights were simply average, including the final showdown between Sammo and Wu Jing, which, by the way, happened for no reason. They are literally just sitting there, and Wu Jing says he doesn't think Sammo is better than him. So they decide to just go ahead and have a death match. The only good thing about this movie really was the level of violence and brutality in the kills. It could have been really good, like a cool gangster movie, but it just didn't come together. Skip this and watch "SPL" or "Election" instead.

Agree- sloppy film. The fight at the end happened for no reason at all- I thought they were just going to have fun fight but not a deathmatch- ridicolous, & the ending is silly. I think the stole the CGI blood from "Kiltro" - cuz it looks the same.
Yes,yes, yes, yes, yes!!!I waited forever to get a copy of Bio Zombie, a movie that I'd heard about for a long time, and I was not disappointed with what I got.
The first third of this movie has almost nothing to do with zombies, but don't let that turn you off. It is packed with hilarious situations, and you will laugh your ass off before the carnage starts.
About one third or midway through the film the action starts, and it is satisfying. While the makeup and effects are pretty low budget, it does not detract from the overall movie at all.
This is the best zombie movie I have ever seen. In this film you care about who lives or dies. The characters are well developed in the beginning so it makes the slaughter meaningful.
Sam Lee and Jordan Chan are awesome as far as being funny, such as when they admire the guy with big balls.
This film contains just enough gore to satisfy gore hounds such as myself, but not too much to gross anyone out. Basically, it has the perfect amount of gore. There are severed limbs and heads and occasional splashes of blood, but no gross out Bad Taste type stuff.
I found this movie to be thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end, and there is not anything I can really think of negative to say about it. I suppose some people could be turned off by the slow beginning, but I loved it. This movie is genius.
It's hilarious and there are many nods to video games, including the reloading icon, and Crazy Bee figuring out how to kill the zombies. (Watch it, you'll see)
While not the goriest zombie movie ever, I found it to be my favorite. It has lots of humor, but it doesn't fail to make you jump either. The movie definitely takes a sharp turn into horror mode towards the end, but I didn't find it out of place, especially after someone in particular is killed. (I told you, watch it and see.) Also, the incredibly grim ending was awesome, and definitely more original than most crappy endings in a lot of zombie movies. I would recommend this to fans of any zombie movies, or fans of Sam Lee's laugh your ass of comedy. This movie is very well acted and it's hilarious...and it's a gory zombie movie!!! What more could you ask for in a film? Okay, maybe some nudity, but this movie is truly a must for your HK DVD collection!!!
