Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl (product link) Drama / Historical A very well directed film by Joan Chen, dealing with life at the time that the story starts in. Based on a story by Geling Yan, it tells of a young woman's travail in her support of Communism and doing her duty for Chairman Mao Zedong. It's also a story that has a sad ending that makes the story good. A young girl who is naive to do what she can to get home by prostituting herself with certain men of some power so she can get to go home. She is being manipulated by the men that say they can help but only to help themselves.
A Bizarre Love Triangle (product link) Comedy / Romance This film is entertaining and funny too. There are moments of comedy and melodrama that are well directed. A pretty nice three-way love story that shows heart and sometimes no heart, for that is how most relationships are in reality.
