Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch (product link) Horror / Thriller I have never understood the vitriol aimed at this lean, imaginative North American horror classic. After the gore bore "Halloween 2", this was a refreshing change of pace--one which dared to give fans something different. Plus we have Tom Atkins hauling ass through any-town USA, killer masks, and creepy men in suits...
Well, to each their own. Clearly the same mentality who despise this are lapping up "Saw VIII" or whatever base excuse for horror is being churned out across mutiplexes this Winter.

If this were a movie of itself, maybe it would of been nice, but without Mike Meyers, this film sucks. Same way with Friday the 13th part 5. It's stupid and pointless.
I didn't enjoy this film, even pretending that it wasn't part of the "Halloween" series. But the fact that it was made it even more irritating. Subsequent entries in the series have succeeded, though many haven't. This one is just totally irrelevant.
The Black Tavern (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Now this was an action-packed surprise! Fierce and fast swordplay, acrobatic fights, and the trademark early SB explicit blood letting. Shih Szu (as the Lady Hermit's student) wraps the film up with a show-stopping climax, where almost no one is left unbloodied.
There's enough style in this one film to furnish three Western productions, and that hack of a director, Tarantino, clearly thought highly enough of it to lift the most striking imagery for his cut-and-paste "Kill Bill Vol 1".
Shaolin Prince (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This was the first of the three films Tong Gai directed (the others being the excellent "Shaolin Intruders" and "Opium and the Kung Fu Master").
I found the at times quite juvenile humour (what's new with HK films?) really funny, especially the pogoing monks quite literally giving their superiors sass on a stick.
The fights come thick and fast, with plenty of wire assisted work throughout, and reminded me a little of some of the action in "Zu: Warriors of the Magic Mountain". This film contains hardly any fantasy elements, but if you're a fan of the crazy "Holy Flame of the Martial World" or "Zu", I can't recommend the slightly more down to Earth "Shaolin Prince" enough.
