OK, a recent article at Kungfucinema.com has kicked all this Frank Dux stuff back to the fore. http://www.kungfucinema.com/frank-dux-the-man-behind-bloodsport-and-the-rise-of-jcvd-10158
What are people's opinions on this guy? Real deal ninja or pathetic faker? I must say I'm personally inclined to disbelieve most of his claims. The evidence against Dux seems fairly convincing and reasonable, and Dux's defenders come across as generally hysterical and paranoid.
Does Dux have any credibility to you? Why or why not?
He appears to be a poseur. The claims about encountering Bruce Lee don't seem to work with the stated age of Frank Dux and the professional career of Bruce Lee. I suspect the man knows something about fighting, but is spinning tales on top of fantasies.
I read the article once for the overall feel of the interview, then went back and started to analyze. Now I am not an expert on JCVD or Dux.I am however a logical person and as the saying goes, the numbers don't add up. There was a paragraph in particular that bothered me "In recalling the fallout from their rift,Frank essentially took credit for making Van Damme. “His career tanked. I was really the driving force behind his career. He’s a fantastic performer but without being told what to do or given the right words…I wrote a lot of his material and never got credit for it. Without me there telling him what to say and what to do, his career went into the toilet."
Give me a frickin break! He attempts to make JCVD sound like a developmentally disabled child who must be told literally everything, something like a savant. Good at one thing, kicking ass,but unable to even speak the right words?! Dux is a fraud, liar, loser and user. That's the way I read it.
Like Cinema, I was finally able to read the article on Frank Dux where he basically took credit for making JVCD. I think Frank has been eating a bunch of sour grapes because he in essence wanted to be the success JVCD was. Van Damme did movies I liked before " Bloodsport " such as " Black Eagle ", and " No Retreat No Surrender ". He also died other movies I liked such as " Cyborg ", " Death Warrent ", and " Knockout ", without Frank telling JVCD how to act or speak. As for the man himself I think he really is a good martial artist and an ex-soldier. As far as his life experiences, I believe some of them are exagerrated to show us how great he is. I just seem to sense from his interview that he wanted fame and fortune as a martial arts actor and that he was jealous of JVCD.
