| WHAT OTHER FILMS WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE GET THE DRAGON DYNASTY TREATMENT? (141 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| I presume that most of us are pretty happy with the rise of Dragon Dynasty. Getting excellent transfers with serviceable subs and a boon of extras for classic films is a blessing.
But there are plenty more out there that I'd love to see. Five Deadly Venoms and Invincible Pole FIghter would be 2 classics that have decent releases, but nothing complete.
'The Blade' and 'The MIssion' would be great on DD. The current release of the 'The Mission' is so bad it's almost unwatchable if it wasn't such a great film.
The original 'Zu' would be great to see re-mastered as well. It was the film that launched Tsui Hark and had so many legends in it at the time and it still one of the seminal fantasy KF flicks.
What do you think? | Garvinstomp 9/25/2008 12:33 PM |
| #2 | The Celestial/IVL DVD of Eight Diagram Pole Fighter (Invincible Pole Fighter) is fantastic, not sure about the 5 deadly venoms though (I have a US-subbed version of that one). Of course, EDPF with a Logan commentary track and interviews with Gordon Liu and Kara Hui would be most welcome. Hell, bring in Lau Kar Leung to talk about Hung gar.
Other than that, I'd love to see a nicely remastered OAR version of Mystery of Chessboxing. | TheDenizen 9/25/2008 12:48 PM |
| #3 | For me personally, I feel that a lot of the classic 1980s modern-day crime-action flix, like all the "In The Line Of Duty" films...that type of stuff, has been neglected. I'd love to see a huge slew of those films get properly re-issued from the likes of Dragon Dynasty.
Of course there are tons of films that are more than worthy of a proper re-release, it's just a matter of who owns them and what the potential profit is, and what materials survive. There are so many universally acclaimed films that still haven't gotten quality releases. "King Of Masks" comes to mind! But that's just one example. | Choco 9/25/2008 12:51 PM |
| #4 | I love Dragon Dynasty for what there doing, if i could pick other films. let's see. Last Hero in China would be one of them, followed byEight diagram pole fight, Killer's Romance (simon yam film) and Duel to the death or Duel of the iron fist. | KW9784 9/25/2008 1:06 PM |
| #5 | P.S. Garvinstomp, this would be a good blog post rather than a discussion, since it's not related specifically to a single film. So I'm converting this to a blog post. | Choco 9/25/2008 1:07 PM |
| #6 | I completely agree with Choco that the "In The Line Of Duty" movies need to get a proper rerelease(especially 4). I'd also like to see Dragon Dynasty release a bunch of Jackie/Sammo/Yuen flicks. Definitely "Dragons Forever". Ooo, what about them releasing the uncut version of "Drunken Master 2". Probably a ton more I can't think of at the moment. I'm exausted. To be continued... | Bastard Ronin 9/25/2008 5:44 PM |
| #7 | I agree with Bastard Ronin, I'd like to see the rerelease of the best of the Jackie/Sammo/Yuen flicks especially " Dragons Forever". There are a ton more like some of the Ti Lung/David Chiang/Chang Cheh collaborations. Drawing a brain cramp now but I'll revisit this topic later..... | Sgt. T 10/6/2008 8:53 AM |
| #8 | DD is releasing DRUNKEN MASTER 2. Bey already did an interview with Ken Lo for it. Will it be uncut and the dream version that all the fans want?? Who knows? But it will most likely be better than both the awful Dimension version and the slightly subpar Thakral version! | JAY LEE 10/29/2008 9:33 AM |
| #9 | Wow, that's incredible. Fingers crossed! | Choco 10/29/2008 9:50 AM |
| #10 | I confirmed that DD doesn't have any plans to release this title right now. | Choco 10/29/2008 1:23 PM |
| #11 | This news makes me a sad panda. | TheDenizen 10/29/2008 1:25 PM |
| #12 | Maybe I can help you turn that frown upside down...they did hint that an upcoming release of the "Fong Sai Yuk" films is on deck. :) | Choco 10/29/2008 3:47 PM |
| #13 | Sorry, your right Choco... I misread the blog! | JAY LEE 10/30/2008 9:16 AM |
| #14 | I'm really stoked about the FSY releases though, those are some of my favorites. | Choco 10/30/2008 9:27 AM |
| #15 | Ooooh, nice. I always thought the US edited versions ("The Legend") were decent, but I'd love to get a chance to see the original cuts with the proper language tracks. | TheDenizen 10/30/2008 12:56 PM |
| #16 | I've suggested to them that they refrain from using the lame US title "The Legend", we'll see if they do. :) This would actually be near the top of my want list for remastered fu on DVD. | Choco 10/30/2008 1:05 PM |
| #17 | I doubt they will take your advice Choc...! Im surprised they didn't name it THE LEGEND OF POLICE STORY and THE LEGEND OF RIGHTING WRONGS....! Apparantly everything coming out of asia is 'legendary' according to the Schweinsteins! | JAY LEE 10/30/2008 1:31 PM |
| #18 | We should start a pool...my vote is for:
The Jade Legend Of Jet Li's Wu-Tang Matrix Boxing - Part 1 | Choco 10/30/2008 3:34 PM |
| #19 | Nice one jay Lee! It does seem that US releases are formatted as "The Legend of the " (I.E. "The Legend of the Red Dragon" or "The Legend of the Black Scorpion" or "The Legend of the Purple Dinosour"). That makes me wonder about the "The Legend" and "The Legend II." Was New Line so devoid of talent that they couldn't even think up a color or animal when putting out their cut? | Lewis 10/31/2008 1:37 AM |
