Has anyone seen a remake that was BETTER than the original? I can only think of one, "THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR".YoMama

#3 I liked the "Omen" remake more than the original. I also liked the US and Korean "Ring" remakes more than the Japanese original. "Hills Have Eyes" I can also agree with...there are actually lots of 'em. Most remakes do suck and are pointless, but there are a good number of them that offer welcome updates IMO. Choco

#4 Oh yeah, not much of a remake, possibly rip off, but close enough... Reservoir Dogs was A LOT better than City On Fire. =)City On Fire

#6 Pacino's Scarface is WAYYYY better than the Howard Hawks version from the 1930's.

This is the rare exception, though, not the rule. 99% of remakes are utterly pointless. The Hills Have Eyes is the perfect example: the remake is technically much better, but the movie itself is nowhere near as powerful or creepy as the original. Hence, there was no real impetus to remake it in the first place (other than easy Box Office without having to come up with a new script).

#7 Forgot about Scarface. Oh, another one. Funny Games remake was better than the original. The reason being: Naomi Watts was a lot better looking than that older woman they had in the first one! =) Other than that, it's a useless shot by shot remake.City On Fire

#8 What about THE WORST remakes?

"Psycho" - The most pointless remake ever? Shot for shot. Anne Heche instead of Janet Leigh? Why, God, whyyyy?

"Rear Window" - Alfred Hitchcock's single best film IMO remade with a paralyzed Christopher Reeve? The worst part is that the protagonist was originally an adventurous photojournalist, hence his immobility is truly unbearable and he uses his camera to seek out excitement. But in the remake he's...A FRIGGIN' ARCHITECT!??! WHY!!?

#9 Worst remake? Hmmmm you guys will hate me for it, so I won't even mention it. Hint: It's a remake of a Bruce Lee flick.

#10 I think "Red Dragon" was a much better film than "Manhunter". Choco

#12 Great remakes of great films - John Carpenter's take on "The Thing", Werner Herzog's retelling of "Nosferatu", and I'm totally agreeing with y'all on the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes", even though I totally dug the original.

Crapfests - "When A Stranger Calls", the "Godzilla" atrocity with Matthew Broderick, and even though the remake of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" had its moments, it should have never been made: the original is a classic and cannot be topped.

As for TV shows, I love the US "The Office" maybe as much as the original, even though it took the entire first season for them to find their own voice and this current season has been almost completely devoid of laughs. But one of the biggest sins TV has ever made as far as remakes... the mind numbingly awful "Battlestar Galactica". The original was kinda fun and campy. The remake... this crap is just horrible. And while I'm at it, I'm throwing in "Enterprise" too. Dumb as ass.

#13 The Beverly Hillbillies movie comes to mind as a crap movie inspired by a great pop culture show. Though Iloved the original King Kong as a kid and the seventies version with Jessica Lange, the latest offering with up dated special effects is a guilty pleasure!Sgt. T
