| ALTERNATE ENDINGS - THE SIGN OF A BAD MOVIE? (90 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| Has anyone else noticed that DVDs that include alternate endings are usually really bad films? In fact, I can often tell while watching a film if there will be alternate endings included in the special features, because these films often have that "oh shit, I have no idea what I'm doing" directorial feeling to them, especially in the endings.

I think they're purposely filming alternative endings so they can cash in and feature it as an extra when it becomes available on DVD release. But yeah, for the most part, alternative endings to newer movies generally do suck...
Some of the best alternative endings (real ones, not intentional) are on the older movies. Ever see the TRUE ROMANCE alternative ending? Or maybe even the violent DIE HARD III alternative ending?

| #3 | Yeah, alternate endings usually bite but I really dig the alternate ending of "Army Of Darkness". I do love the original ending though. | Bastard Ronin 10/28/2008 8:28 AM |
| #4 | Multiple endings to me is the sign of a wishy washy filmmaker who isn't sure of the idea he's trying to present. Usually it means they screened the film for a test audience who didn't like the ending, so they filmed another one (or had filmed multiple endings to show to different test audiences).
I personally hate the whole "pre-screening for audience feedback" process. Would an artist in any other medium present unfinished work to the general public and then alter it? Seems preposterous to me. | TheDenizen 10/28/2008 9:47 AM |
| #5 | "wishy washy", exactly. You can tell when you're watching the film that this director had no confidence in what he was doing. That's when you know there will probably be "alternate endings" on the DVD... | Choco 10/28/2008 10:07 AM |
