OUT OF PRODUCTION The legendary Oppo OPDV971H has been discontinued. The new DV-981HD effectively replaces it. The major difference between the 981 and 971 is 1080p upconvert offered by the 981, the addition of a HDMI port, and the removal of the component video output. The 981 is our top-recommended upconverting DVD player, and is designed for digital HDTVs only.
If you have a regular TV, we highly recommend the versatile and award-winning all-region Oppo DV-970HD. The 970 will support your standard TV now, and your HDTV in the future with its HDMI output with HD-upconversion. This web page is for informational purposes only.
NOTE: The Oppo 971 supports non-HDCP compliant displays, unlike the Oppo 970 and 981.

ALL ABOUT THE OPPO DIGITAL OPDV971H
The forte of the Oppo OPDV971H is support for the latest HD display devices using DVI or HDMI connection. Utilizing the same Faroudja DCDi deinterlacer that powers our $1,699.95 Denon DVD-3910, the OPDV971H produces the highest quality upconverted images in 480P, 576P (PAL), 720P, and 1080i resolutions.
Secrets Of Home Theater And High Fidelity rated the OPDV971H as their highest scoring player (98 points out of a possible 100) using a proven test procedure involving 22 individually measured criteria. Much of the score in this test is based on image quality alone, so when you consider other less tangible benefits of this player such as its all-region support, its unparalleled media compatibility, and fantastic access to technical help and warranty assistance, its value for the money should clearly increase.
The OPDV971H is an extremely flexible player. It will properly convert PAL to NTSC, output in PAL or NTSC, will operate across multiple voltages, and is compatible with all standard recordable CD and DVD media (excluding dual layer media) in addition to DVD-Audio discs. It is compatible with JPEG, WMA, MP3, MPEG-4 and XviD format types, and will play any region DVDs. You can put the unit in all-region (region-0) mode, or utilize manual region selection, which enables the player to be fully compatible with RCE/RCA discs.
In conclusion, we feel that this is the best player to buy if you have, or will be upgrading soon to a HD TV, plasma, or projector with DVI or HDMI input. If you have an older HD display with only component input, please consider the MOMITSU V880-DX or HELIOS HVD-2085, as the OPDV971H will not upconvert via component connections. Please also note that progressive scan on the OPDV971H is available only through the DVI or HDMI* connections (* with the free DVI-HDMI adapter we include each purchase). If you have a regular TV right now, and may upgrade to a HDTV in the future, we recommend the less expensive OPPO DV-970HD, which offers superior video quality through the component connection, but still supports HD upconversion through HDMI.
HKFlix packages this excellent player with both a DVI-DVI cable, and a free DVI-HDMI adapter, giving you maximum flexibility now, and in the future. All current Oppos ship with the upgraded (black color) remote control.
