ALL ABOUT THE TOSHIBA XD-E500 After Toshiba dropped their bid for an HD media format (HD-DVD), they concentrated all their efforts on standard def upconversion. The XD-E500 is the end result of that effort, and there has been a lot of hype around this player touting it as the best upconversion in a consumer-level player. Given its extremely good reviews, both from critics and consumers, this hype now seems justified. The XD-E500 offers three upconversion modes to tailor its performance to the source material. We've modified this player to be region free. It will also convert PAL to NTSC.
