ALL ABOUT THE SONY BDP-S500 Play BD discs from Europe! The BDP-S500 improves on the S300 through a slightly better build quality in the S500, a (useless but cosmetically attractive) motorized front panel, Dolby True HD, DTS-HD1, and HDMI 1.3. Sony's BDP-S500 takes full advantage of the 1080p Blu-Ray standard. If you have a 1080P set, but haven't upgraded to Blu-Ray, you haven't yet realized your TV's potential since cable and satellite broadcasts are in 720p or 1080i. Our modification pushes Blu-Ray one step further by allowing you to play Blu-Ray discs from Region A (North America, Japan, Hong Kong, South East Asia) and Region B (Europe, Africa, Oceania, and the Middle East). This unit also plays Region-1 & 2 standard DVDs. Output on SD is NTSC only. Our modification permits this player to be updated with the latest manufacturer's firmware without affecting the modification.
