ALL ABOUT THE PHILIPS DVP5140
The Philips DVP5140 replaces the Philips DVP642. It is a worth successor at a great price. The 5140 uses a 12 bit/108 MHz video system instead of the 10 bit/54 MHz system used on the 642, and practically all other DVD players priced $100 and under today. As a result, the 5140 produces visibly sharper images and more natural colors. Another problem with the 642 and many other cheap players are their ability to play less than flawless discs. This includes scratched and dirty discs. The 5140 does a very good job at this. Unlike higher end players like the Oppo 970, which we also carry, it lacks the full array of outputs such as Digital Video out (DVI or HDMI), S-Video, and Digital Audio Optical output. If your budget is $100 or less, this is the player to get. If you can afford a bit more, you might consider the Oppo 970.
