FIRMWARE UPDATING INSTRUCTIONS
URGENT NOTE: If your player is working fine, please do not update your firmware. To avoid all possible damage to your player, firmware updates should only be done when absolutely necessary. CLICK HERE for firmware revision details.
- Note that prior to updating firmware, you must revert back to Region-1 mode by following the steps above, but skipping step #3.
- The firmware update below is from 02-18-2003. Do not use this firmware update unless your current firmware is older than this. To determine which firmware version you currently have, press the "CHP" button for about 5 seconds and the version number should appear on top-left of your screen.
- CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FIRMWARE
- Unzip the firmware file and record it onto a CD-R or CR-RW, maintaining the same directory structure. "be_firm" should be the top-level folder on your CD-R.
- Turn on the player and insert the disc you just made. It will prompt you to hold down the UP button on the remote several seconds. After that, just wait while the player updates its internal firmware (may take several minutes). Make sure you do not turn off the player or press any buttons during this process--if you do not allow the player to complete the upgrade, it may be permanently damaged. The player should reboot when it is done.
- NEW FEATURE AVAILABLE 02-18-2003: After the upgrade you should see a #3 selection in Video Setup. Then you can select #6 ("Vertical Interpolation") and tweak the settings to find the best ways to play PAL DVDs on an NTSC TV.
- CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL SUPPLEMENT that explains how to use the new X-Y scaling and zoom features.
