You will receive a shipping confirmation via email every time we make a shipment to you. In addition, whenever possible, you will receive a delivery confirmation or tracking number via email as well. Be sure to check your order status in MY ACCOUNT before worrying, as that will always tell you which items have shipped and when, and which have not.
This is our most commonly asked question. Here are some possible answers:
- If you placed your order less than 2 business days ago, it may not have shipped yet. In-stock items take 1-2 business days to process. Our order cutoff is 5pm PST. Any orders placed after 5pm will not be reviewed until the next business day. Once your order ships, you will receive an automated email within 2 business days.
- International Standard shipping, please note that it may take up to 45 days for your shipment to arrive in extremely rare circumstances. This is not due to any slowness on our part, this is due to the postal system and the way packages are routed. If you do not want to wait that long for your package, please select a faster shipping option!
- Remember: In-stock items are processed in 1-2 business days. So always figure in 1-2 business days plus shipping transit time to estimate final delivery date.
If an item is missing from your order, that means it is just temporarily out of stock (backordered). You can check on or cancel your backorder at any time by logging into MY ACCOUNT and viewing ORDER STATUS. If you paid with credit card, you will not be charged for your backorder until it ships. Backorders normally take 1-3 weeks to ship. You will receive an automated email confirmation as soon as a backorder ships. We pay shipping on domestic backorders.
An item can be in "processing" status for any of the following reasons:
- The order is very recent (please allow 1-2 business days after placing the order for us to process it)
- We are awaiting payment for it (if paying by paypal or check). Please note that personal checks must clear in our bank before being entered.
- The item is temporarily out of stock (backordered). Please note that we do not know when backorders will ship, since this depends solely on stock availability from the manufacturer/supplier. But we will ship them AS SOON AS THEY COME IN, or you can cancel it if you do not want to want. Backordered items will automatically be cancelled if we are unable to ship them within 60 days.
You can only cancel orders and backorders that are not in our daily order queue and have not been charged or shipped. This can be done via
MY ACCOUNT. Certain special order and hardware items may not be cancelled once ordered.
Your order may have been cancelled because you ordered an item(s) that cannot be sold to your country, or because the remaining item(s) in your order expired. We automatically cancel any backorders, usually after 60 days. If you pre-paid for any cancelled items, you will be issued FlixBux (store credit) for the price. If you paid with credit card, you were not charged for any cancelled items.
An item can be in "cancelled" status for any of the following reasons:
- You canceled the item.
- HKFlix staff cancelled the item at your request or for another reason (if so, check Order Notes for an explanation).
- The item expired after being unavailable for 60 days, or after payment was not received for 60 days (paypal and check orders).
You can confirm this easily by viewing your order status in MY ACCOUNT. Cancelled items will show up under the "CANCELLED ITEMS" area. Consider this your confirmation. We cannot provide any additional confirmation.
Special orders take anywhere from 1 week to 8 weeks or more. Usually we are at the mercy of distributors and will be unable to provide a shipping estimate. If we are unable to source the DVD after 90 days, we will automatically cancel it unless you specifically ask to extend the deadline. Special orders paid with a credit card are only charged when they are shipped.
This is very important. Most DVD players and TVs purchased in the USA only play NTSC Region 1 (or all-region) DVDs. To play PAL format DVDs and DVDs with Region Coding other than Region 1, you will probably need a special DVD player that plays DVDs from all regions and converts PAL to NTSC.

There are sometimes different DVD versions of a movie because different companies buy distribution rights to the movie in different territories. For example, Universe Laser (based in Hong Kong) may own the rights to a certain film in Hong Kong. Mega Star (also based in Hong Kong), meanwhile, may own the rights to that same film in Taiwan. And Saerom Entertainment (in Korea) may own the rights in Korea, etc. Thus, our web site might list the two HK Versions and the one Korean Version of this film available for sale.
There are often big differences between versions of a movie. The differences between an HK version and a USA version (or other international release) are often immense, while differences between HK DVDs are typically more minor.
At HKFlix, we always include all available information on our DVD product pages so you can decide which DVD version of a film is right for you.
It depends. The subtitle information on our product page refers only to the feature presentation or movie. Often, a DVD will contain documentaries, trailers, and additional features. These special features may or may not contain subtitles. A general rule is that special features are subtitled in English only if the DVD is made in the USA or the U.K. Special features tend to be in the primary language of the film origin; and if it is subtitled, is only subtitled in the language of where the DVD was manufactured.

Imbedded subtitles are subtitles that are actually burned into the film print and cannot be removed when viewing. Normally such DVDs are mastered from a film print that was originally intended to be viewed in theaters. Lower-quality DVDs typically have imbedded subtitles. However, often if you want a particular film on DVD, you will have no other choice.
By using PayPal or check, you are agreeing to pre-pay for your entire order, even if some items are temporarily on backorder, or become unavailable. If after paying you decide to cancel any items, or if any items become unavailable, you will be issued a store credit. We do not issue cash refunds for any reason.

There are two possibilities. Maybe we don't carry any of that actor's DVDs or... more likely you're searching using a spelling which deviates from the spelling we're using. "Anglofication" of Chinese names creates many different spelling. In theory something as simple as Chow Yun Fat may cause problems since some people spell it Chow Yun-Fat. Also, the lead actress, "Michelle Yeoh" used to be known as "Michelle Khan". Another example is Yuen Wo Ping: several reputable sources spell his name different ways: "Yuen Woo-Pin", "Yuen Wo-Ping", and "Yuen Wo Ping". In this case, for example, a search for "Yuen Wo" should pull up all of these names in the results.
The "HKFlix Recommended" insignia appears on any film that we feel is patricularly worthy of recommendation within its genre or category. Please note that the "HKFlix Recommends" insignia signifies a recommended FILM, not a recommended DVD version of a film.
If you're sure you entered your login email and password correctly, this is probably an issue with your browser. Please use the following checklist:
- Make sure you are using a current-version major browser (Mozilla Firefox (recommended), Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.).
- Manually clear your browser's cache (this can usually be done via a "tools" menu, but varies by browser).
- Make sure you have cookies enabled and are not using any additional software that prevents the use of cookies.
- If your browser has a setting for "check for newer versions of pages..." make sure it is set to "automatically" or "every time" and not "never".
- Close and re-start your browser.
Unfortunately, FedEx and USPS each treat these locations differently. Consequently, the options we can offer you are these:
- If you require express/insured shipping, you'll need to set your shipping country to (for example) "U.S. Virgin Islands" or "Guam" or etc. since FedEx does not consider this location to be "domestic".
- If you just require normal USPS shipping, you'll need to set your shipping country to "U.S.A." and your state to (for example) "VI - Virgin Islands (U.S.)" or "GU - Guam" or etc. and then select either Economy or Standard shipping, whichever you prefer. You'll see a note that FedEx doesn't recognize your address during checkout, you can ignore that since you're not using FedEx.
FedEx options won't show up if FedEx doesn't offer service to your location, or if your address is improperly formatted. Canada and Mexico customers must use the proper 2-digit state/province code (see list of codes available during checkout). Please type in your address carefully using standard formatting and it should work fine.
We stock quite a few copies of each title, so we will almost always have everything you order in stock and ready to ship within 1-2 business days of when payment is cleared. Please see our

If you order a preordered DVD, we will reserve a copy for you, and you will not be charged until it ships (credit card orders only). If you place a single order with both preorder and in-stock items, the in-stock items will ship immediately and the preorders will ship as soon as they are available. You will not be charged additional shipping because the order is shipping separately.

Every country has their own laws pertaining to duties and taxes. To find out if any additional fees will be added to your order at HKFlix, we suggest you contact your local customs office. Unfortunately, we have no access to that information. You are responsible for paying any taxes, duties or customs fees for which you are liable in your country. As of October 2009, HKFlix only charges sales tax for domestic shipments within the state of Missouri. Tax will be calculated during checkout using current rates.
Unlike most other retailers, we do not charge you anything extra for split shipments. Orders containing a mix of in-stock items and out-of-stock items (such as backorders, pre-orders, and special order items) will be split into multiple shipments to get them to you quickly. The first shipment will be sent via the shipping method you select during checkout.
